In the age of reboots and remakes, one can’t help but wonder, What’s next? What classic movie is going to be picked next? Will it be a beloved horror movie likeSalem’s Lot? Will it be alive-action movie likeBarbie? A buddy comedy remake ofRush Hour? There are two sides to every coin, whether you enjoy these flicks or despise them. You might feel protective of the movies filmmakers tap for the next remake, not wanting a cast of fresh faces to take the names of characters you’re familiar with. Or maybe you’re a fan of old stories being told again, and you look forward towhatever could possibly be next.

So far, there haven’t really been any classic romance movies done again, but it is fun to think about what could possibly be the first big one. Such asThe Notebook, a romance flick that’s been beloved by so many people and was adapted from the Nicholas Sparks book of the same name. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams did the characters justice in their adaptation, but maybe it’s time for something new. If they were to ever remakeThe Notebook,a staple in the romance genre, no doubt they would go for an entirely new cast. With that in mind, here’s a list of five actors we’d love to see play Noah and five actresses we’d love to see Allie.

9Miles Teller

Miles Tellerhas had avery steady decade of acting, and has appeared in a few romance movies, but nothing of the same caliber asThe Notebook. That being said, it isn’t hard to picture the charming and charismatic actor in the role of Noah. InTop Gun: Maverick, we saw him as Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, and he was the perfect definition of a cocky but charming pilot. Not only is he very handsome, but Teller has that certain look in his eye that confirms he could handle a slightly damaged character that Ryan Gosling made his own.

It might be hard to pictureZendayain a serious role if yougrew up watching her on Disneyor as MJ in Tom Holland’sSpider-Manmovies. However, you shouldn’t count her out as Allie, since she proved her acting dynamics inMalcolm and Marie. Zendaya is one of the best actresses of her generation right now and is quickly approaching ultimate stardom. When discussing race in reboots, people often cry foul and say that filmmakers are trying to stay relevant by race-swapping the characters instead of keeping them as they were, which are mostly Caucasian. The fact of the matter is, people are tired of seeing the same thing in these stories, so casting people of color in roles that were originally white is a way to combat that problem.

7Lily James

Lily Jamesis quite literally a Disney princess, ever since she was in the Cinderella live-action movie. Ever since she starred inMama Mia: Here We Go Again, she’s gained steady recognition as an actressand could easily take on the role of Allie. She has that flare about her where she can transform herself fully into the character she’s taking on, such as Pamela Anderson. It’s also hard to imagine she wouldn’t have chemistry with any of the five men listed here because she’s that charismatic.

6Harry Shum Jr

Harry Shum Jr.is set to play themale lead in theCrazy Rich Asianssequel, so that’s real evidence that the former Glee star could hold his own. Shum Jr. is very charismatic and has a soft way of speaking, similar to Gosling’s Noah. Harry Shum Jr. has proved that he’s a versatile actor by starring inGleefor several seasons as Mike Chang, inGrey’s Anatomyas Kwan, and in one of his biggest roles as Magnus Bane in the showShadowhunters. He’s handsome and fully capable of the role of Noah.

5Jessica Chastain

If there’s one way to describeJessica Chastain, it would be dreamy. The character of Allie is essentially the “it” girl, the one people wish they were because of the love she shares with Noah. Rachel McAdams did a great job making Allie a woman who’s sure of herself but also completely devoted to Noah. Chastainhas been in the game for quite some time now, so there’s no doubt she would absolutely transform the role of Allie and make it her own.

4Danny Ramirez

Danny Ramirezis a somewhat new addition to the Hollywood scene, but in Netflix’sLook Both Ways, he proved that he’s absolutely swoon-worthy. That’s part of Noah’s whole thing, isn’t it? The ability to make the audience fall in love with him because of how he treats his love interest, Allie. We love him because of how he loves her. Ramirez would have no problem capturing the audience’s attention as well as their hearts.

3Zoey Duetch

If you’ve seen the movieSet It Up, you know exactly whyZoey Deutchis on this list. She genuinely has that quality about her that makes her enjoyable to watch. Allie’s character, at her core, is that of a good woman with good and pure morals, who gets mixed up with Noah’s wild side. Deutch would easily be able to take on those characteristics. She’d be a great Allie, possibly paired with Miles Teller’s Noah.

2Paul Mescal

The Irishman who stole the hearts of just about everyone with his projectsNormal PeopleandAftersun, isPaul Mescal. If you sleep on Mescal or deny that he’s on his way to being a huge star, you just might be making a big mistake. Mescaloffers a sense of familiaritywithin his characters, a comfortableness that you find yourself in while watching him on screen. Mescal would be a great Noah, and you definitely wouldn’t be thinking of Ryan Gosling while watching.

1Florence Pugh

Florence Pughhas a very credible roster of projects she’s been in, such asMidsommarandDon’t Worry, Darling. Pugh has a certain energy about her that demands your attention whenever she’s on-screen, and if you’re going to play Allie, you have to be attention-grabbing. It would be hard to ignore or deny Pugh as Allie, not only because she’s beautiful, but also because of how well she’d be able to adapt Allie’s vibe as a whole.
