It’s obviously been a rough time inAlec Baldwin’s life lately, and the actor is hoping to leave as many negative feelings as he can in 2021 as he starts the new year with a more optimistic outlook. Back in October, Baldwin had been filming the movieRustwhen a prop gun he was holding discharged a live round, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. The incident has left many in the industry calling for firearm safety reform on movie and television sets.
In the months following his involvement in the deadly accident on the set ofRust, Baldwin has touched on what happened in various videos. OnInstagram,he posted a new video once again sharing his thoughts and where he’s currently at with the whole situation. In the video, Baldwin first details the story of how he was recently handed a Splenda packet from a young woman he didn’t know when he’d gone out to eat. She had written him a message of support on the packet, letting him know that there are “so many” people who care about him. The small gesture meant a lot to Baldwin and he raved about how kind and thoughtful it was. As the actor details in his video, this and other supportive messages from others have helped greatly during what he calls the “worst” time of his life.
“I’ve had more people who have been kind and thoughtful and generous of spirit than I’ve had people who are malignant about the death Halyna Hutchins. I’m not afraid to say that and to couch that in some euphemisms — somebody died very tragically. And I’ve gotten so much, I mean so much, goodwill from people. It’s just incredible.”
Alec Baldwin Wants the Truth to Come Out
Baldwin explains how he’s never been one for New Year’s resolutions, but he’s making a vow heading into 2022. He says he’s going to do all he can to not let the “negativity” affect his life. While there have been people offering support, others have been very critical of Baldwin and his role in theRustsituation, to which the actor says he “understands.” Investigators are still working to figure out how live rounds wound up on the set, but no one has yet been charged with a crime due to the incident.
As part of his efforts to stay positive, Baldwin also says he’s spoken with some well-known spiritual and philosophical figures for guidance. He notes that the idea is to “manage your feelings better and not let it destroy you or get the better of you. We live in a world where there’s just oceans of negativity, online and so forth, and one must find a way to manage that.” He also stresses how he wants the authorities to complete their investigation, noting his hope to get to the bottom of the incident.
“This has been, surely, the worst situation I’ve ever been involved with, and I’m very hopeful that the people in charge with investigating this whole thing get to the truth as soon as possible. No one wants the truth more than I do.”
Among those also under investigation are assistant director Dave Halls and on-set armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed. Everyone has been cooperative with the authorities as the investigation continues but there is no word yet on how soon the police will release their findings. In the meantime, Alec Baldwin will be doing his best not to let the criticism take over.
