After it was reported that the future ofPrime Video’sCitadelwas in jeopardy following an executive shake-up at Amazon MGM Studios, it seemsthe show will indeed return in 2026. However, it will be alone this time around, as both of its spin-offs have been canceled and their storylines will be funneled intoCitadelSeason 2, which has problems of its own. Produced by the Russo Brothers,Citadelhas been a very expensive investment by Amazon, but one that has not paid off so far.
On Wednesday morning, the Co-Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios, Vernon Sanders, revealed thatCitadelSeason 2 is releasing sometime next year during Q2, whileCitadel: Honey BunnyandCitadel: Dianahave been canceled. Instead,CitadelSeason 2 will continue on the threads woven by Honey Bunny and Diana, making for a jam-packed new batch of episodes. The latest development is not very shocking considering the budget and production problems each show faced, especially since Season 2 of the parent action series has taken so long to get a release date despite wrapping production long ago. Read his statement:

“Having successfully traversed India and Italy, storylines from bothCitadel: Honey BunnyandCitadel: Dianawill be woven into the upcoming second season of the mothership seriesCitadel. While these successful and widely enjoyed international chapters will not continue as individual series, Season 2 ofCitadelwill be our most exhilarating yet. With high-stakes storytelling, new additions to our amazing cast and bold, cinematic ambition, the new season will deepen the emotional journeys of Nadia, Mason, and Orlick against the relentless force that is Manticore. We’re excited to share what’s next when Citadel Season 2 premieres globally in Q2 of 2026.”
New James Bond Favorite Emerges Amid Amazon Reboot…and He’s a Real Outlaw
The actor said recently that he would love to be the new 007.
With the departure of Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke, who oversaw the creation ofCitadeland its spin-offs, the disintegration of the franchise is not very shocking. The first season failed to impress critics with a rotten 51% on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences were slightly more positive on it, with over 1,000 ratings garnering it a 62% Popcornmeter score. The spin-offs,Citadel: Honey BunnyandCitadel: Diana, fared better with critics and audiences alike, but it was evidently not enough to warrant a continuation of either series.

Meanwhile, the studio is now more concerned with jumpstarting another James Bond film series, as well as some potential offshoots for Prime Video. After hiring someveteran producers for the next 007 adventure, all hands are on deck to get the iconic franchise back on the big screen, sooner rather than later.
What Is ‘Citadel’ Season 2 About?
Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas,Citadelfollows a group of spies as they attempt to stop Manticore, a global criminal organization. It’s been a few years since we last saw them, but the second season will take place shortly after the events of the previous finale. Check out the official logline forCitadelSeason 2:
“One month after the events of the first season, we find our Citadel spies underground, as they’re being hunted by Manticore agents around the world. They’re pulled out of hiding to join forces with a new team of unconventional spies when Manticore’s Brazilian billionaire Paulo Braga threatens to unleash a cataclysmic piece of technology, built by Citadel’s own Bernard Orlick, into the world.”

With an epic production budget that could finance several smaller films,Citadelwas set to have Joe Russo, one-half of theAvengers: Doomsdayduo, direct each episode of the second season. However, it is unclear if that remained the case when it went into production.
