It should come as no surprise that in our current cinematic state of affairs that someone would eventually set out to remake or reboot the franchise. What makes this one a bit more interesting than the typical remake is that the script is coming from the original director’s son.
Max Landis has a pretty solid resume, delivering the screenplay for the critically praisedChronicle. He also went on to pen the action comedyAmerican Ultraand the thrillerVictor Frankenstein, neither of which were big hits at the box office. He also hasThe Good Time Gangcoming up, which follows two party-happy mercenaries who decide to take on a serious case involving a terrorist, only to find their mission complicated when they discover one of them is related to the target. He’s also writing the David Ayer cop fantasyBrightfor Netflix, which stars Will Smith.
At this time, it isn’t known if this remake will be calledAn American Werewolf In London, or if it is simply titledAmerican Werewolf. Anthony Waller directed a sequel in 1997 calledAn American Werewolf in Paris, which was not well-received by fans. It’s possible that this new take on the series could reboot thehorror comedy franchise, with a series ofAmerican Werewolfadventures set in different major cities around the world.
TheAn American Werewolf in Londonremake has not been announced by Universal, who hold the rights. But Max Landis did tweet out this series of hints, indicating that he is definitely taking on his dad’s epic Lycanthrope adventure. There is also the possibility that Max Landis could direct the movie as well, as his career seems headed in that direction. He made his directorial debut earlier this year with the indie comedyMe Him Her. He is reportedly also writing aPepe Le Pewmovie for Warner Bros.
