Will Ferrellhas been known to do over-the-top things in movies. From streaking inOld Schooltofighting a bear in bothAnchormanandSemi-Pro,his characters tend toget into many precarious situations. Back in 2012, Ferrell took on a role that was unlike any he had done before. He starred inCasa de mi Padre, a film where he spoke in Spanish the entire time.
This was an impressive turn by Ferrell, mostly because he isn’t a native speaker of the language. He plays a Mexican rancher named Armando Álvarez who falls in love with his brother’s fiancée. The movie masks the fact that he is very clearly not a Mexican by playing upthe soapiness of telenovelasand soap operas. It is all meant to be tongue-in-cheek.

Casa de mi padre
However, that doesn’t stop Ferrell from excelling in it. The film made a modest return at the box office. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth revisiting. It’s especially prescient to view right now for fans of some recent Disney hits, includingAndor. Here’s why.
Diego Luna Plays Will Ferrell’s Brother
There isn’t a show hotter on Disney+ right now thanAndor. TheRogue Onespinoff has been thrilling Star Wars fans for two seasons. Luna stars as Cassian Andor, the main character of the show, reprising his role fromRogue One. Four years before Luna took on the role of Cassian, he played Raúl, Armando’s brother, inCasa de mi Padre. He comes back to his father’s ranch as a successful businessman who is engaged to be married.
He makes the pledge to pay off his father’s debts, which will allow his father and Armando to enjoy the prosperity of the ranch. Things go sideways when Armando falls in love with his soon-to-be wife. Also, his success as a businessman may be overstated a bit. Luna and Ferrell have some great scenes together in the film. Luna brings a vibrance to the role, as he has throughout his entire career. A supporting role inRogue Oneturned into the starring role in one of the most critically acclaimed series of the past five years. That can be hard to do for a genre-specific show, but Luna helps elevateAndoras he did withCasa de mi padre.

Diego Luna’s Best Performances, Ranked
Currently starring in Andor, Diego Luna is finally getting the recognition that he deserves. Let’s take a look at his best performances, ranked.
Gael García Bernal Plays the Villain
Luna paired again with his good friend Gael García Bernal inCasa de mi Padre. The pair is forever linked by their breakout roles inY tu mamá también,the smash Alfonso Cuarón hitin 2001. The two played best friends in that film and have been good friends since they were young and growing up together in Mexico. Luna and García Bernal have appeared together four times on screen, withCasa de mi Padrebeing one of them. García Bernal stars as Onza, the most powerful drug lord in Mexico.
García Bernal gives the appropriate heavy-handedness to the villain’s role that is required for the bad guy in a telenovela. He dresses fancier than anybody else, showing off his wealth and style. He thinks he’s better than everyone because he has money. But he also isn’t afraid to show off the violence he used to get where he is today. It’s a role that he seemed to really sink his teeth into, similar to a role he had in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Disney+ and MCU fans should be interested in García Bernal’s performance in the film because he starred inWerewolf by Night, astandalone TV special based on a Marvel comic. His character is the titular Werewolf by Night, who had connections to Moon Knight and Doctor Strange in the comics. The special was used to introduce a number of different characters to the MCU, potentially opening up ways to have Blade enter the fold.
Marvel has struggled to get the newBlademovie with Mahershala Ali off the ground. With the potential of a follow-up special toWerewolf by Night, there are a number of ways Marvel can go. García Bernal should return in the role, and that will also likely run on Disney+.

Why Werewolf by Night Is One of the Most Exciting MCU Characters
Werewolf by Night has been introduced to the MCU with a new Disney+ special, and here is why his future is so exciting.
Génesis Rodríguez Stars as Raúl’s Fiancee, Sonia
Armando becomes smitten by Sonia, played by Génesis Rodríguez. This throws a huge wrench into everyone’s plans in the film, as the two realize their relationship is what is going to cause a lot of issues for both the ranch and the standing of the family. It’s because of this and Raúl’s business deals that Onza gets involved and declares war on the family. Rodríguez portrays Sonia as an incredibly sweet and innocent woman, unaware of what is happening in her fiancé’s life.
Rodríguez actually had experience starring in telenovelas on Telemundo for years. She brought that experience to her role of Sonia, crafting the classic love interest who finds herself in the middle of a love triangle. Rodríguez has been in many different projects across all kinds of genres. Disney+ fans would know her as the voice of Honey Lemon inBig Hero 6.

Seen asone of Disney’s best movies, it’s actually loosely based on a Marvel comic about a healthcare robot and a young inventor who work together as superheroes. Honey Lemon is a chemistry prodigy who uses her intelligence to her advantage to create potions. Rodríguez provided the voice for the Spanish dub of the film and reprised the role inBig Hero 6: The Series.
