In this scenario, the outside world is a toxic play unsuitable for habitation, and anyone who risks going out is living their last days. It depicts exactly this but also provides noteworthy information about the existence of Silo. No one knows its history. This is shown when someone in a full protective suit leaves the Silo, and everyone sees them suffer.

The teaser also shows a fraction of the life of the last 10,000 people, which seems to besuffocating and limiting. And most importantly, devoid of light. The Silo is multiple stories deep and comprises most of what one could need to survive. A lot more is shown, from babies being nurtured after birth, to needed mechanical work for the Silo to exist and for agriculture. But the focus isn’t on the life of those in the Silo but more on the Silo’s history and future. Holston (played by actor David Oyelowo) states what we know and what the people of Silo know. We only know that inside the Silo, they are safe, and outside it, they are not—a seed to spark curiosity in the prospective viewer.

Juliette (played by actor Rebecca Ferguson), an engineer, responds to this same curiosity. She believes that there is something strange about the Silo. She is seeking the answers to the murder of a loved one. And this is followed by a scene of the residents of the Silo eating only a bite of an apple each and throwing it in a square where two dead bodies lay, covered head to toe. But at the same time, Bernard (played by actor Tim Robbins) states that some mysteries are better left unsolved, possibly hinting that no good could come from trying to unravel the secret of the Silo,a secret no one knows.

But, of course, there is an attempt. This is matched up with clips of investigation and a brawl among the citizens. But what could have sparked a brawl? It could be possible that the ongoing tension and mystery about the Silo’s existence and what happens when one were to step outside all act as reasons for impending doom. A fight between the residents and their leaders, possibly a class conflict. This all cuts down to the big question. What if life at the Silo, the existence of the community, and the reason why it exists and thrives are all a lie?
