It looks like the changes are being wrung on another Marvel movie withSnowpiercer’sJosh Friedmanboarding Marvel Studios’Fantastic Fourmovie as writer. Friedman, who also had a hand inAvatar: The Way of Water, takes over from previous writers Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer according toThe Hollywood Reporter. While this kind of change is nothing new for Marvel, it does suggest that the film’s tone could be changing to something more serious.

Marvel movies have always toed the line when it comes to the balance between drama, action and comedy. While many movies have managed to hit the balance just right, others, such as 2022’sThor: Love and Thunder, have been seen to push the comedy side of things a bit too far. PreviousFantastic Fourwriters Kaplan and Springer were best known for their comedy writing, and some of their other upcoming projects includeDisaster Weddingand the Rebel Wilson vehicleK-Pop: Lost in America.

However, Josh Friedman is more of a dark sci-fi veteran, whose credits include co-writing Steven Spielberg’sWar of the Worlds,Terminator: Dark Fateand adapting Bong Joon-Ho’sSnowpiercerfor TV. Having constantly worked in this kind of genre, and also being enlisted by James Cameron to help on theAvatarmovies, it would suggest that theFantastic Fourmovie could still including some of the standard Marvel humor, but could also be heading down a darker route than it was originally headed.WandaVisionhelmer Matt Shakman is still expected to direct the movie.

Why Doctor Doom Should Be Introduced in the MCU Before The Fantastic Four

Fantastic Four Casting Announcements Are Yet To Be Revealed.

Like many Marvel projects, there is an almost overbearing amount of secrecy around who is being cast in the key roles of theFantastic Four’s heroic quartet. While John Krasinski has already played Mr Fantastic inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,it is unlikely that he will be reprising the role inFantastic Four, with his multiverse variant having not quite received the reaction that was expected.

However, exactly who will step into the role is very much unknown right now, although there are several possibly candidates being touted on social media at any one time. This is also true ofthe casting of Sue Storm, although suggestions for the remaining members of the team have been thin on the ground.

One thing that is clear is that the change in writer could also mean a change of direction for both the movie and the actors being cast in the main roles. While it has been widely said thatFantastic Fourwill not be an origin movie – as the pain of 2015’s reboot reminds us of what that can turn into – and the film will not feature Doctor Doom as its antagonist. With so little actually known about the Phase 6 movie, any changes made to the story now will only be known to those working on the early stages of the production, and we will never know what could have been if the movie had stayed on its original course.
