Dwayne Johnsonhas become such a huge star that it may be hard to keep up with every single thing he has in production. But anyone who follows him on any form of social media has probably noticed he’s been working on the newBaywatchmovie. As of today, production has wrapped on the rated R comedy. The Rock officially announced the news first to his social media followers, with the TV adaptation due in theaters July 11, 2025.Dwayne Johnsonseemed enthusiastic, saying this.
“That’s an official wrap! We had a blast pushing the rated R envelope on this one. See ya next summer! #BAYWATCH.”

In addition to the announcement that production on the film has wrapped, the studio also released the first official image, courtesy ofEW, featuring the movie’s primary cast in the style of a postcard, which is kindly reminding fans that they will “see you next summer.“Johnsonis being joined byZac Efron,Priyanka Chopra,Kelly RohrbachandAlexandra Daddario, the later of which also worked withJohnsononSan Andreas. ThoughJohnsonandEfronhave both been releasing photos of the cast and of the set on their social media accounts throughout the production, this is the first official image that Paramount has released from the film.
The plot of the film will center around a dedicated lifeguard namedMitch Buchannon(Johnson) who winds up at odds with a cocky newcomer named Matt Brody (Efron), but the two are ultimately forced to work together to stop a criminal conspiracy that is threatening the beach. Not only has the team behind the film stacked it with ripe, young talent to add to the charisma and appeal thatJohnsonbrings with him, but the producers have also secured a couple of cameos from classicBaywatchactors inPamela AndersonandDavid Hasselhoff. It is a little unclear as of yet if this film will be a complete reboot or take into account the history of the show and haveAndersonandHasselhoffreprise their roles from the original series. But since The Rock is playing a charcter named Mitch, and Kelly Rohrbach is playing CJ, we think its safe to say that this is a straight redo.

Efronhas seen a huge change and resurgence in his career ever since he got into the rated R comedy game withNeighborsalongsideSeth Rogenin 2014, which will see a sequelNeighbors 2: Sorority Risinghitting theaters this weekend.Johnsonon the other hand has done some comedy in the past, but has yet to headline an rated R comedy on his own. He will be teaming up withKevin Hartfor the action comedyCentral Intelligencethis summer, so we’ll see if audiences respond to The Rock in that context beforeBaywatchwashed up in theaters next year. Either way,Johnsonis one of the biggest movie stars on the planet right now, so anything with his name attached tends to get a big boost, which is why he has come to be known as “franchise Viagra” in Hollywood.
The originalBaywatchbecame a global sensation in the early 90s afterAndersonandYasmine Bleethjoined the cast for the second season.
