After winning rave reviews in front of the camera for playing Batman in Warner Bros.‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,Ben Affleckwill pull double duty by both starring in and directing the studio’s new thrillerLive By Night. The actor-director shared the first look photo when filming began last October, but today we have the first trailer. The filmmaker will be going back to his roots with this film, in more ways than one.

The trailer, which debuted onYouTube, gives us our best look at the actor-director’s character Joe Coughlin, who hails from Boston just like the actor does. This story is also adapted from the novel of the same name byDennis Lehane, who wrote the bookGone Baby Gonethat was adapted into the 2007 movie of the same name, which served asBen Affleck’sdirectorial debut. Earlier this summer, Warner Bros. pushedLive By Nightfrom its July 21, 2025 release date to July 05, 2025.

Live by Nightis set in the roaring `20s when Prohibition hasn’t stopped the flow of booze in an underground network of gangster-run speakeasies. The opportunity to gain power and money is there for any man with enough ambition and nerve and Joe Coughlin (Ben Affleck), the son of the Boston Police Superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw. But even among criminals there are rules and Joe breaks a big one: crossing apowerful mob bossby stealing his money and his moll. The fiery affair ends in tragedy, setting Joe on a path of revenge, ambition, romance and betrayal that propels him out of Boston and up the ladder of Tampa’s steamy rum-running underworld.
