It is now confirmed thatBeverly Hills CopstaplePaul Reiserwill reprise the role of Detective Jeffrey Friedman alongsideEddie Murphyin the long-awaited sequel,Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. Now, speaking withSlashfilm, Reiser has discussed what it was like seeing Murphy return to his iconic role after nearly three decades.
“I was finally glad to see that he actually didn’t quite look 23 anymore. It’s like, a year ago, this f***ing guy looks exactly the same.”

After joking that he was always happy to “help Eddie out whenever I can and to boost his career,” Reiser described returning to theBeverly Hills Copfranchise as “an honor.“Recent images from filming have already revealed what Eddie Murphy will look in the role of Detective Axel Foley after all these years. Sporting the same varsity jacket and tennis shoes ensemble that will be familiar to fans, Murphy looks like he never really left. Though, as Reiser points out, he doesn’t quite look like he’s in his 20s anymore.
“We were chatting, and I remember, I was at his 21st birthday party, which was at Studio 54, or whatever Studio 54 became. And now, we’re in our 60s, even Eddie’s in his 60s. I’m like, ‘That’s a long span. We’ve been doing this a while.'”
It has indeed been “a while,” withBeverly Hills Copfans having waited almost 30 years for another adventure led by Axel Foley. No doubt, despite neither of them being in their early years anymore, both Murphy and Reiser will slip effortlessly back into these fan-favorite roles.
