Black Adamwill finally bring Dwayne Johnson’s anti-hero to the DCEU this October. Despite a number of fan theories predictingSuperman or Shazam could make a cameo in the film, it seems that all expectation of that happening should be abandoned now. Appearing at SDCC, directorJaume Collet-Serra, who also directed Johnson in Disney’sJungle Cruise, discussed the film, and also shut down the rumors of other superheroes appearing in the movie, saying it is too early in the timeline for any of that to happen.

While there have been plenty of rumors aboutBlack Adam’s connection to theDCEU, it seems that entire film will take place in a space that doesn’t allow for cameos from the likes of Henry Cavill or Zachary Levi’s respective heroes of Superman or Shazam. Speaking directly about these possible cameos, Collet-Serra said:

“Our movie is an original story. By the time the movie ends, he doesn’t know who Shazam or Superman is. He has to adapt to why he is here, what the world is about.”

The movie was recently moved from a summer release to October as the filmrequired additional reshootsand time for the visual effects to be completed. Arriving just months beforeShazam! Fury of the Gods, there has been a lot of speculation about whether the two movies would be crossing over. It seems now, that fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Black Adam become integrated with other characters from the DCEU.

Black Adam Will Exist In A World Of Superheroes.

Although there will be no crossovers with established DCEU characters, Black Adam will exist in a world that is occupied by the likes of Batman and Superman, but having been entombed for centuries he has no idea of the world he awakens to, which makes it sensible that the film wouldn’t feature any of those cameos that fans have been clamoring for.

However, Black Adam will come up against theJustice Society of America, who are brought into to stop the mighty powerhouse when he awakens. This group includes Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan) and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) but how they will cope with Black Adam’s powers is something that will have to be seen when the movie releases in October.

When it comes to Johnson, he has spent a lot of time building up audiences to expect something special fromBlack Adam, and while the actor has become synonymous with mindless, crowd-pleasing blockbusters, this time around Collet-Serra has said to expect to see a different side to the wrestler-turned-actor. He toldDeadline:

“He has such a presence. Black Adam doesn’t speak a lot, which allows him to tap into different resources. He can let his presence permeate in a scene in such a way versus other roles where he has had more interaction with people. you may tell he’s comfortable in the role. The moment he walks on set, it’s like a boxer walking into the arena.”
