Bob Odenkirk’s new action movie featuring a vacation from hell may have struggled at the box office this weekend, and did not exactly perform perfectly for critics, but it has landed right where it needed to with the people who matter the most: the audience. Opening on Friday,Nobody 2currently holds a strong 90% approval rating from those who have ventured out to cinemas to see theJohn Wick-esque thriller. This may be a little lower than the 94% achieved by its predecessor in 2021, but it proves that once again Odenkirk is able to please his fans and action lovers everywhere.

Just like the original movie, which introduced Hutch Mansell, a man who is seen as one of life’s nobodies until he is pulled into a violent world in which he is shockingly able to give as good as he gets against a Russian adversary, while trying to save his family and make sure he is never seen as a nobody again. Picking up after the events of that movie,Nobody 2’s synopsis reads:

Bob Odenkirk holding a gun in Nobody

“Workaholic assassin Hutch Mansell takes his family on a much-needed vacation to the small tourist town of Plummerville. However, he soon finds himself in the crosshairs of a corrupt theme-park operator, a shady sheriff, and a bloodthirsty crime boss.”

Director Timo Tjahjanto, who will next take the helm of Jason Statham sequel,The Beekeeper 2, really doesn’t break from the format of the successful first movie, keeping it to a tight 89 minutes full of fist-fights, gun-fights, chases, and more brutal action than many movies manage to fit into a two-hour-plus film. As well as its economical runtime,Nobody 2keeps with an R rating for “strong bloody violence and language,” and hasa cast including Sharon Stone, John Ortiz, and Colin Hanks along with Connie Nielsen and RZA.

‘Nobody 2’ Has Not Been a Blockbuster Hit, but Another Sequel Can Still Happen

Nobody 2failed to take the top spot at the box office on its debut, with last week’s horror movie hitWeaponseasily holding on to the number one position for another turn. However, only having a $25 million budget means it is looking to make back half that with its domestic opening weekend, and it is hard for anyone to consider it a flop. Whether it does enough to secure a third movie is yet to be seen, butOdenkirk is used to playing the underdog, and it is hard to rule outNobody 3happening just yet.

Odenkirk has already laid out his own view on the chances of seeing Hutch return again, and believes there could even be two further movies to come. Speaking at this year’s SDCC, Odenkirk said:

“I somewhat boldly state that I think there could be four. I have ideas about where the character goes. The core sort of issue, which is, can you maintain, how can you live a civilized life, a family life, and then vent your worst rages on the world? Can those two things exist in a balance, which, I don’t think they can. In a movie, you can do it, because you can go to a magical place, but in real life, of course, it’s never done. It’s never really going to be OK.”
