Titus Welliverbelieves there is a “weird similarity” between his roles inBoschandWatchmen: Chapter I. Welliver hasplayed many characters over his 34-year career, fromLost’sMan in Black to the Silas Adams inDeadwood, but in the last few years he has become best known for perfectly embodying Michael Connelly’s Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch in bothBoschandBosch: Legacy. Now he is playing another different role, voicing the shady private eye Rorschach in the animated two-part movie,Watchmen: Chapter I.

Based on the DC comics of the same name, the new take onWatchmenwas released on Digital on August 13, with a Blu-ray to follow on August 27. During a recent interview to promote the movie, Welliver explained how, despite coming from very different sources, the characters of Bosch and Rorschach have certain similarities. He toldComicBook.com:

“I think the similarity is that Rorschach is relentless in the same way that Harry Bosch is. I mean, there’s a kind of obsessive nature to the character. Even his attire is a throwback to the gumshoes — the fedora and the raincoat and all that. And Harry Bosch obviously is not as dark as Rorschach, but there’s a weird similarity coming from a really bad and traumatic childhood. There are some similarities there. That’s what made it kind of fun, was doing that. I’ve always said, I don’t know why somebody doesn’t do an animated series of Bosch. It would be really cool if they could pull that off. But I’d be a purist, man. I’d say, ‘Well, it’s gotta be cell animation.'”

Bosch Continues to Be a Solid Crowd-Pleaser

Watchmen: Chapter Ihas delivered some strong reviews, even if most people agree that is still not a perfect adaptation of the seemingly impossible to adapt comics. While Welliver will return again inWatchmen: Chapter IIlater this year, many of his fans are more interested in finding out future as Harry Bosch.

Welliver made his first appearance as the gruff detective back in 2014, starring as the titular character forseven seasons before the show came to an end in 2021. However, that was far from the end for Bosch. After a side-step from Prime Video to Amazon Freevee, Welliver reprised his role inBosch: Legacy. Now retired from the LAPD, Bosch’s career path has led him to be a private investigator, working with defense attorney Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers reprising her role fromBosch). With pretty much the same team behind the series, it was not surprising that a change of platform did nothing to diminish the demand for more Bosch.
