Captain America: Brave New Worldwill feature legendary actorHarrison Fordtaking on the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (previously played by the late William Hurt), who transforms into the iconic villain Red Hulk. Not a stranger to starring in some of the most famous movie franchises, includingStar WarsandIndiana Jones, one might think that the veteran thespian would refrain from future appearances in the MCU. He may not bethe biggestStar Warsfan, but it seems Marvel has been a far more positive experience.Ford has revealed that not only is he open to returning as Red Hulk afterCaptain America: Brave New World, but he is quite keen on doing so.

During a press conference attended byGamesRadar+, Ford was shockingly honest about his experience makingCaptain America: Brave New Worldand his willingness to reprise his role as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the MCU. It’s clear he had a good time working on the role, and Ford really wants to return as the character in a future MCU project. However, it may not be connected to his Red Hulk alter ego, as Ford details:

Anthony Mackie in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’

“I hope he can come back. I hope [there’s] a story in which he can develop into something other than the Red Hulk. I think we have the capacity to shift shape between Hulkness and humanity, but that’s really not my department. I was very happy with the opportunity to play in this playground. What an amazing group of people to work with, and what an imaginative reality. So I was looking forward to having a piece of the action.”

It’s unconfirmed if Ford will indeed return in some capacity post-Brave New World, but there is certainly space formore Red Hulk in the MCU. Since he is typically a Hulk villain, perhaps his character could actually form part of a solo project opposite the rage-filled green superhero.Marvel Studios has a tendency to throw away good villains after using them once, but Ford should be the exception to the rule. After all, it’s not like Han Solo is returning toStar Warsanytime soon…right?

Could Red Hulk Become an Avenger? (A Dark Avenger)

Although he is not officially slated to appear in this year’sThunderbolts*, it’s hard not to see a possible connection with Harrison Ford’s character. After all, the name of the group was inspired by Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the comics. He was also a member of the anti-hero team starting in 2012 during Daniel Way’sThunderboltsrun. However, there is much speculation that the film will berenamed to the Dark Avengersonce the credits begin to roll (addressing the asterisk in the official title).Although he was not a member of the Dark Avengers in the comics, Red Hulk was once recruited to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes at one point.

‘Captain America’ Star Anthony Mackie Reacts to Awards Snubs

Anthony Mackie has starred in two Academy Award Best Picture winners but has never been nominated for an Oscar.

The major caveat to Ford’s potential return is the fact it seems he is less interested in hulking out ashis character’s red alter ego. Of course, Ross will likely remain a recurring supporting character in the nextAvengersfilms, but keeping Red Hulk active could net him more important roles. Whatever the case may be, it’s exciting to learn that Ford wants to return to the MCU well before audiences settle on a final verdict forCaptain America: Brave New World.
