But those plans were scrapped, and they would have greatly altered what plays out inCaptain America: Civil Warthis May.
Captain Marveldoesn’t hit theaters until summer 2019. That still gives her plenty of time to emerge in one of the other upcoming movies, such asAnt-Man and the WasporAvengers: Infinity War Part I, both arriving summer 2018. And it’s possible thatGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2will introduce her in a post-credit scene when it hits the big screen next summer.Thor: Ragnarokis also a good bet, as it takes place in the cosmos where Carol resides. But other Marvel characters such asBlack WidowandScarlet Witchhave been relegated to playing second fiddle to their male superhero counterparts. Some were surprised thatCaptain Marvelwas announced as the first solo female superhero adventure for Marvel Studios. The main character, named Carol Danvers, is a woman who gains super powers from an encounter with an alien. “[It’s] about Carol Danvers and that journey to being Captain Marvel.”
That’s what we’ve long known, so no big surprise there. The man was also asked if theBlack Widowmovie would ever see the light of day. It’s a solo adventure the producer has been teasing for years, and apparently, he will continue to do so untilScarlett Johanssonis old and grey and no longer able to swing like she used to. Asked if other female superhero movies are being planned for the near future, he had this to say.
“Yes, for sure, I think [Black] Widow at some point would be great. But when you start talking about things that are now four/five years away…sometimes we do that. Dr. Strange has been talked about for ten years. But we’re focused on the next nine movies, which is a lot, between now and 2019.”
