Star Wars has paid tribute toCarrie Fisheron the two year anniversary of her passing. Tragically, two years ago today, the world lost a legend when Fisher died not long after suffering a heart attack on a flight to Los Angeles. The official Star Wars social media accounts have shared a video today to honor the late actress who brought Princess Leia to life. The video was shared with the following caption.
“Two years missed.Our princess and general, Carrie Fisher.”
The video itself features shots of Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa fromStar Wars, both from the original trilogy and the new trilogy. There is no dialogue. Rather, it’s shots of Fisher set to John Williams' score, which allows the viewer to have a moment of quiet reflection. With Star Wars Celebration 2019 set for April, we are probably going to be in for a much more in-depth tribute to Fisher in the coming months. During Celebration in 2017, a lengthier tribute video to the late actress was put together and revealed during the event.
Carrie Fisher will always be most remembered for her work in the Star Wars franchise, but her career was far more wide-ranging. Fisher wasa renowned writer in Hollywoodand did quite a few punch-ups and a great deal of script doctoring, often uncredited, behind the scenes on many movies over the years. Fisher also did memorable voice work, perhaps most notably starring as Peter Griffin’s boss Angela onFamily Guy. The series recently paid tribute to Fisher as well.
Even thoughCarrie Fisher is no longer with us, her presence still has loomed large in a galaxy far, far away. He scenes had been completed forThe Last Jedi, which was released a year after her passing. Leia played a very significant role in the movie and, even though the movie itself remains divisive amongst the fanbase, Fisher’s work has not been at the center of the majority of criticisms that certain fans have. Fisher is also set to reprise her role once more inStar Wars 9, which is currently being filmed by J.J. Abrams. This will be accomplished by implementing unused footage fromThe Force AwakensandThe Last Jedi. For now, it isn’t clear how prominent her role will be.
Far beyond creating a beloved character, Carrie Fisher’s work as Princess Leia gave people all around the worlda strong female figure to look up tothat has endured for more than four decades. While she may be gone, her presence is going to outlive all of us. As Luke Skywalker once said, “No one’s ever really gone.” Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, who will also be returning inStar Wars 9next year, paid tribute to her mother today as well with a song posted to her Instagram.
