Despite some backlash online, Peacock is moving forward with plans to release a new docuseries this month focusing on accused child murdererCasey Anthony. Infamously put on trial for the murder of her two-year-old daughter Caylee, Anthony was controversially acquitted of the crime in 2011. Even with the acquittal, it’s clear that the majority of the public still believe her to be responsible for Caylee’s death, and she has often drawn comparisons to O.J. Simpson. In any case, she has not done any on-camera interviews in the years since, making Peacock’s new docuseries the first time people will actually see her personally addressing the situation.

The trailer suggests that the series will explore Anthony’s innocence, and it will show her addressing some of the biggest questions people have — such as why she waited 31 days to call 911 when her daughter was “missing.” There are others speaking on her behalf seemingly suggesting that she’s innocent as well, with one friend describing the accusations as, “not the Casey that I knew.”
Another person says in the trailer, “The lies make you think that she did murder this child.”
“I lied, butno one asked why,” Anthony herself adds.

Casey Anthony Reportedly Suggests Her Father Is Responsible
The trailer holds back on revealing too much of what Anthony has to say in the docuseries, though there are reports that she’ll be placing blame on her father.Peoplemagazine quotes Anthony as saying that her dad “took her from me and he went away.” Anthony also alleges that she was abused by her father and her brother, which she had made during the trial; both have denied the allegations and neither have been charged with a crime.
Anthony also claims that she didn’t witness Caylee’s death, but that she was awoken by her father showing her the 2-year-old’s lifeless body, presumably from drowning in the swimming pool outside. However, Anthony says her father then told her that it was “going to be okay,” taking Caylee away and having Casey stay with her then-boyfriend. According to Anthony, she then spent the next month keeping quite what happened as she “genuinely believed that Caylee was still alive,” based on what her dad had allegedly been telling her.
Dismissing that Caylee’s death could have been accidental, Anthony is also quoted as saying that the pool had no ladder and no way for the girl to get inside unless her father “put her in the pool to cover up what he did.”
Regardless, there has still been anoutpouring of backlash against Peacockfor streaming the docuseries. Many say that it’s inappropriate for the streamer to give Anthony a platform to “spread her lies,” as others say they’re disgusted by the thought of the accused murderer getting paid and “profiting” from the death of her daughter. Perhaps this is just the latest stop of the true crime craze that many of us should have seen coming.
