Chris Evans has seemingly confirmed that he will not renew his contract for Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Originally, Evans had only signed on up untilInfinity War, but he extended his contract after the Russo Brothers wanted to make the movie a two-parter. While many Marvel fans had hoped that the actor was going to keep going, signing on to one project at a time, it seems that Chris Evans is finished playingCaptain Americaon the big screen.
Chris Evans revealed that he had finished all of his parts for the still untitledAvengers 4. However, the actor may be called back to do reshoots between now and next year, which means he’s not completely out of the woods yet. When asked about thepossibility of returning to the MCUasCaptain Americain the future, Chris Evans was open and honest with his answer, and it doesn’t leave much to the imagination. He had this to say.

Chris Evans' thoughts on the subject of returning seem toecho those of co-star Robert Downey Jr., who has pretty much said the same thing. It’s been heavily rumored thatIron ManandCaptain Americawill both die at the hands of Thanos, leaving room for the new round of heroes to come and take their places. This makes perfect sense since both of their contracts are up with the completion ofAvengers 4. However, a new fan theory predicts that almost everybody will die and that Doctor Strange will bring everybody back to life through the use of the time stone, so we’ll just have to wait and see about all of these “brutal” deaths inInfinity War.
Chris Evans has also been very vocal about having been scared of taking on a 9-picture deal when Marvel offered it up. He initially turned down the role a few times because of the anxiety of taking on such a huge project and said that he preferred to do one movie at a time, to have a chance to step back if needed. He obviously got over that fear, but there’s also the part that’s taxing on the body.Captain Americahas to be in epic shape and able to get into battle at any time, so it seems like an easy choice to step down from the role.
