It’s official, Mr. Big is coming back for the newSex and the Cityrevival series. Previously, it was revealed that the classic HBO drama would continue in the form of a sequel series calledAnd Just Like That… . It’s now been revealed that actor Chris Noth has signed on to reprise the role of Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) former love interest, Mr. Big, though it’s unclear if it will be as a cameo appearance or a recurring role.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Chris again on AndJust Like That…. How could we ever do anew chapter of the Sex and the City storywithout our Mr. Big?” said executive producer Michael Patrick King said in a statement on Wednesday.
Set several years after Sex and the City,And Just Like That… brings back Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes, and Kristin Davis as Charlotte York Goldenblatt, following the trio as they continue to navigate their friendship in their 50s. The cast will also include the debut of Sara Ramirez (Grey’s Anatomy) as Che Diaz, a new character described as a “nonbinary, queer stand-up comedian who hosts a podcast on which Carrie is regularly featured.”
Also an important part of the franchise, Noth previously reprised his role as Mr. Big in theSex and the Citymovie in 2008 along with its 2010 sequel. Throughout the story, he served as the primary on-and-off love interest for Carrie, and the two ended up finally getting married in the firstSex and the Citymovie adaptation. Their married life suffers turbulence in the sequel, but the couple manage to reconcile by the end of the movie. The state of their relationship inAnd Just Like That…is unclear.
We’ve got three of the original main characters along with Mr. Big returning, but it might still feel like something is missing for longtime fans of the franchise. That’s because Kim Cattrall, who playedSamantha Jonesin the original show and both movies, did not return for the revival series. This isn’t exactly a surprise, given the friction between Cattrall and Parker over the past several years, but her absence leaves a bit of a void that Sara Ramirez has been left to fill.
“I don’t dislike her. I’ve never said that. Never would,” Parker told aSex and the Cityfan on Instagram who questioned why Samantha wasn’t included. “Samantha isn’t part of this story. But she will always be part of us. No matter where we are or what we do.”
This followed previous comments fromKim Cattralthat she would never take part in any moreSex and the Cityprojects. In 2017, she also said on Pier Morgan’s show that she’s “never been friends” with her co-stars from the series. When Parker offered condolences after Cattrall’s brother died in 2018, Cattrall posted said of her former co-star, “Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend.”
A premiere date forAnd Just Like That…has not yet been set. Classic episodes ofSex and the Citycan be streamed on HBO Max. This news comes to us fromThe Hollywood Reporter.
