While it certainly caused a stir at the time for that slap,Chris Rock’s stint hosting the Oscars has certainly led to the comedian being highly sought after for many other hosting roles. As well as rumors that he is wanted to return to the Oscars again next year, which would be Will Smith free but probably not Will Smith joke free, it has been reported byDeadlinethat Rock is aslo wanted to host this year’sPrimetime Emmyson NBC. Along with Rock, the producers of the show have been said to have also approached The Rock akaDwayne Johnsonas another top of the list choice.
However, it seems that in both cases the search this year’s Primetime Emmys host will have to continue as sources have said that Rock has declined the offer and Johnson is not likely to be going for it either. While Rock’s decision is likely to come down to him not wanting to spend the whole evening having to make reference and listen to others reference the slap he received from Will Smith during this year’s Oscars ceremony, Johnson is probably just far too busy to consider such an event, withBlack Adamdue out this year and numerous other movies being in various stages of development. It may only be one night, but it still requires a bit of preparation time that The Rock may just think isn’t worth the return. However, it would be safe to say that if he did host, there would be no slaps being dealt out to him.

In the past, NBC have been known to bring in their own talent to host the awards ceremony, withThe Neighborhoodstar Cedric the Entertainer hosting last year’s show. However it could prove to be a bit of a job finding someone to take on the presenter role, as according to the report there are plenty who have previously hosted that do not want a second bite of the cherry. This means that NBC could have to lower their expectations on just who will step up to the role, because at the moment it certainly doesn’t look like either of their first choices are interested in the job.
Emmy voting has already started, and there are plenty of big names in the running for the top awards. From the likes ofUnder the Banner of Heaven’s Andrew Garfield andAtlanta’s Donald Glover, through to the stars ofBetter Call SaulandOnly Murders in The Building, it is once again going to be tough to call even just who is going to be receiving nominations this year never mind who actually wins. Of course there are other questions that everyone asks. Will there be any big upsets? Who will be robbed of an award? Will Marvel Studios ever be given one of the big awards?
The nominees for the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced on July 12, and then everyone can spend a few months arguing over their favorites to win when the ceremony airs on September 12.
