The star-studded spectacular is slated to open in theaters on August 13, 2025, andtickets for the movie went on sale12 months ahead of its grand debut, making it even more critical for the acclaimed filmmaker to maintain a tight schedule to ensure that the film arrives on time. Fortunately, the latest filming update from the team indicates that everything is on target and heading in the right direction.

Cameras started rolling onThe Odysseyin late February, with photos from the setteasing the ambitious scaleof the project — which is reportedly the most expensive movie that Nolan has made to date. Now, less than six months later, the film has wrapped production. A crew member reportedly told World of Reel that today marked the final day of filming, having completed a global shoot that spanned multiple locations, including Morocco, Greece, Italy, Malta, Scotland, Iceland, and more.The Odyssey’s supervising art director, Samantha Englender, also confirmed the news in an Instagram story, simply writing, “That’s a wrap.”

Even before it releases on the big screen,The Odysseyhas already made history, as the movie wasshot entirely on IMAX cameras, becoming the first commercial feature film to do so. IMAX chief Rich Gelfond previously confirmed the news, saying it came about from the director presenting him with a unique challenge. “A year before Chris started filmingThe Odyssey, he called me and said he wanted to make a whole film with IMAX cameras,” he said, but admitted that it “couldn’t be done for a lot of reasons,” citing the lengthy process of reloading stock, watching dailies in a timely fashion, and galley sounds, but, not one to be deterred, Nolan worked closely with the team to figure out a way to make it happen.

What Is ‘The Odyssey’ About?

The Odysseytakes its name from the ancient Greek poem penned by Homer, which is being adapted for the screen by Nolan. It is considered a foundational piece of literature, telling the story of Odysseus as he embarks on a ten-year trek home to Ithaca as he attempts to reunite with his wife Penelope in the wake of the decade-long Trojan War. He faces several trials and tribulations along the way, not least of which includes the Greek god of the sea, Poseidon, seeking revenge on the traveler after he blinds his son, the cyclops Polyphemus.
