Was there ever any doubt thatCaptain America: Civil Warwould be a gargantuan hit? It will likely be one of the top five movies of 2016, if not the number one money earner. But just how high will it fly is still anybody’s guess. And at this point, it looks likely that it won’t break any substantialsummer box officerecords. The first Marvel Phase 3 movie is pacing last year’sAvenger’s Age of Ultron, which isn’t a bad thing at all. Though, it probably won’t reach the heights of Disney’s 2015 blockbusterStar Wars: The Force Awakens.

While we won’t get to see Team Cap and Team Iron Man tussle on American shores until this Friday, the movie opened early in several international territories this past week, including an additional eight markets yesterday. The movie is now playing in 38 territories across the globe, and is #1 in all of them. It is currently tracking on par with last May’sAvengers 2, which continues to stand as the highest-ever grossing superhero movie in all foreign lands. It pulled in $946 million overseas. Thus far,Captain America: Civil Warhas earned $84 million in just three short days according toDeadline.

The international highlights include Korea with $12.6M, Mexico with $7.3M, UK with $7.0M, Brazil with $5.4M, France with $5.2M, Australia with $4.5M, Philippines with $3.8M, Taiwan with $3.8M, Germany with $3.7M, Hong Kong with $3.2M, Japan with $2.8M, Thailand with $2.7M, and Malaysia with $2.2M. It has pulled in a nice firm $19.8M from the 25 markets it is current;y screening in. As it stands,Avengers: Age of Ultronis the 9th highest grossing domestic release of all time. And number 7 on the worldwide charts.

Directed by The Russo Bros., who many believe directed the best Marvel movie to date withCaptain America: The Winter Soldier,Marvel’s Civil Waris predicted to pull in $190M+ during its first opening weekend in the states. If it comes in lower than expected, it will not be able to beat the opening weekend gross of 2012’sThe Avengers, which cleared its first three days in release with $207.4M. It should come pretty close to last year’sAvenger’s: Age of Ultron, which brought in $191.3M right out of the gate. Those two Marvel movies are the 3rd and 4th biggest domestic openings of all time. It’s possible thatCaptain America 3could soar above $200M, knockingUltrondown a peg.

IfCaptain America: Civil Warmanages to hit the $175 million projection, it will be the fifth highest opening weekend of all time, behindAvengers: Age of Ultron($191.2 million),The Avengers($207.4 million),Jurassic World($208.8 million) andStar Wars: The Force Awakens($247.9 million). The movie will also be the only movie opening in wide release on next Friday, and with the positive reviews posted thus far, it’s not terribly surprising to hear that it could make between $175 million and $200 million. Still, we’ll have to wait until the weekend of May 6 to find out for sure how well this thirdCaptain Americaadventure fares in theaters.

Captain America: Civil Waris set in the aftermath ofAvengers: Age of Ultron, with Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps, one led bySteve Rogersand his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

Team Iron Man includes Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Vision (Paul Bettany), War Machine (Don Cheadle) and the new charactersT’challa(Chadwick Boseman) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland). Team Cap includes Captain America (Chris Evans), The Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).Captain America: Civil Waralso starsFrank Grilloas Crossbones,William Hurtas Thaddeus Ross,Daniel Brühlas the villainous Baron Zemo.
