‘Clown in a Cornfield’ Teaser Reveals Shudder’s Bonkers New Horror Movie

Don’t mess with Frendo.

Clown in a Cornfieldstars Katie Douglass, Carson MacCormac, Kevin Durand, Will Sasso, Aaron Abrams, and Cassandra Potenza, among others. The film is produced bySmileveterans Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey and written by Craig alongside Carter Blanchard. It is based on the YA novel of the same name by Adam Cesare, which won the 2020 Bram Stoker Award for Best Young Adult Novel. Before the book was even released, the rights to adapt it to the big screen had been bought by Temple Hill Entertainment.

The film follows Quinn, a teenage girl who has just moved to the small town of Kettle Springs with her father, the town’s new doctor. Fortunately, Quinn makes friends rather quickly, but their behavior isn’t exactly ideal. Quinn’s father isn’t happy with her new friends. When Quinn sneaks out to a party during an annual celebration, the town’s mascot,Frendo the Clown, makes an appearance. However, he isn’t the playful costumed character one would think he is. He wields a chainsaw and is looking to kill every teenager in town.

The novel has been described as a throwback to ’80s slasher films, with the typical tropes of a ruthless masked killer, teen characters in peril, and an awesome balance between horror and comedy. It was very successful, and Cesare has already written and published two sequels titledClown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo LivesandClown in a Cornfield 3: The Church of Frendo. CouldClown in a Cornfieldbe the beginning of an entire franchise? We’ll have to see how it does at the box office.

‘Clown in a Cornfield’ Is Not Your Average Killer Clown Movie

And that is an understatement. It surely complies with every horror standard you’re able to think of, and yet, there’s something hidden between the crevices of creative kills, hilarious one-liners, and typical teenage issues. IfClown in the Cornfieldfollows the narrative of the novel, then you will get a surprising twist that will explain a lot, but it will also make you scratch your head a few times while you try to guess who’s behind the mask. It’s not exactly a whodunit, but a “whydunit,” and when you find out what’s the motivation behind the emotionless Frendo mask, you will agree with Cesare’s powerful, thrilling, and relevant statement about American values gone berserk.
