While speaking withEntertainment Weeklyabout the final episodes ofCobra Kai, creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg answered questions about potential spin-offs. One idea that Kristen Baldwin touched on was that of best friends Hawk (Jacob Bertrand) and Demetri (Gianni DeCenzo) at Caltech, which seemed right on the money. Hearld said, “That may or may not be something we’ve already talked about.“Hurwitz then added,“It’s like she stole our computer! There may actually be a document, a very thorough document, that says what you just said.”

Hawk and Demetri were introduced inCobra KaiSeason 1 as two nerdy friends of Miguel Diaz. Hawk, real name Eli, embraced the Cobra Kai mentality and gave himself a mohawk so he would no longer feel weak or scared. At the same time, Demetri initially rejected fighting beforebecoming a formidable combatant using Miyagi-do style fighting. The two characters' friendship went through some highs and lows throughout the series, as they often find themselves on opposite sides of the karate mat. Yet the finale showed the two friends packing up their car and driving out to start college at Caltech.
