TheCriminal Mindsrevival is a success.Criminal Minds: Evolution, which essentially serves as the 16th season ofCriminal Minds, premiered on Paramount+ in November. PerDeadline, the series quickly became one of the streaming platform’s top five original shows with fans tuning in en masse to eat up the new episodes. Ahead of the season finale’s arrival on Feb. 9, it was announced that the show has now been officially renewed for season 2 with plans to start filming later this year.
Tanya Giles, chief programming officer of Paramount Streaming, said in a statement, “We’re thrilled to bring even more twisted storylines to our loyal fans ofCriminal Minds: Evolutionwith the order of another season. The series has always been a consistent top performer for Paramount+ and fans have quickly embraced this new season with its more serialized elements. There are still many dark twists and turns yet to come for the BAU this season and we can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store.”

Criminal Minds: Evolutionis a continuation ofCriminal Minds, featuring a mix of new and returning characters. The new episodes follow the FBI criminal profilers as they face an UnSub who has built a network of serial killers during the pandemic. With the world opening back up, the serial killer network goes live, leaving it up to the team to find each one of them to bring down the operation.
Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kristin Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez, and Paget Brewster all reprise their roles for the new series. Zach Gilford has also joined the show as a new cast member for this season. Erica Messer serves as showrunner and executive produces with Breen Frazier, Chris Barbour, Glenn Kershaw, and Mark Gordon.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Brings Back Joe Mantegna and Others
Joe Mantegna spoke about how happy he was to do more withCriminal Mindsahead of the show’s release. The actor, who plays FBI agent David Rossi, told WGN Radio how much he loves his fellow cast and crew as well as the show’s loyal fanbased, and he couldn’t seem to be happier with the revival.
“We’re allthrilled to be back,” Mantegna explained. “And it’s a good group, a great group. I’ve been there for 13 seasons, and I’m glad to be back, and we look forward to new episodes out there. And our fanbase is so wonderful all over the world. I think that’s what helped bring us back,”
