We just got a nice dose of Matt Murdock inThe Defendersseason 1, but there is no rest for the resident blind crime fighter in Hell’s Kitchen. Well, maybe just a little rest.Daredevilseason 3 was given the green light by Marvel and Netflix shortly after season 2 debuted and, more than a year later, it is finally gearing up for production. A new report has revealed the actual production dates forMarvel’s Daredevilseason 3, which looks toget going in October. Not only that, but Charlie Cox, who plays the titular hero, has revealed that the story for season 3 is going to take influence from one of the greatest comic book stories ever.
Starting with the production dates,MCU Exchangereports thatDaredevil season 3will begin filming on October 15, with production scheduled to wrap on June 30. Obviously, some things change during the course of filming, but that is the plan as of right now. That means that it will be a pretty extensive shoot, but it also means that we probably won’t see new episodes ofDaredeviluntil late 2018 or early 2019.
As much as it may pain fans to have to wait that long fornew episodes of Daredevil, it may very well be worth the wait.Charlie Coxrecently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter in honor ofThe Defendersseason 1 arriving on Netflix and was asked whether or notDaredevilseason 3 will take cues from Frank Miller’sDaredevil: Born Againstoryline. His answer was nothing shy of perfect for those who have been hoping to see this story adapted for the screen.
“For sure. That’s such an amazing story. Everyone who loves Daredevil loves ‘Born Again.’ You can’t not. And if that’s the case, then the implications of that would be very exciting to me. That would be great. Having said that, I know we don’t tend to follow any story blueprints too closely, because if you do, then you become a foregone conclusion. There may be elements from ‘Born Again,’ but I’m sure there will be elements that are unfamiliar and surprising and different in order for the show to be compelling to fans who know the comics very well. If we start making ‘Born Again’ page-for-page, then the people who have read it and loved it - the hardcore fans - they won’t have too much drama.”
In case you aren’t familiar,Daredevil: Born Againis a comic book storyline from writer Frank Miller and it is generally considered to be one of his greatest contributions to the world of comics, rivaled only byThe Dark Knight Returns. The story sees Karen Page, played by Deborah Ann Woll in the series, hooked on drugs and selling outMatt Murdock’s real namefor a fox to the Kingpin. That leads to Wilson Fisk doing everything he can to bring the man without fear to his lowest of lows.Born Againfor many is the definitiveDaredevilstoryline and, even if it won’t be a direct adaptation, as Charlie Cox suggests, doing it in any way forDaredevilseason 3 could make for something special.
Marvel and Netflix are currently filmingJessica Jonesseason 2 andLuke Cageseason 2, which are both expected to debut on the streaming service next year. They have also officially given the green light toIron Fistseason 2. So even thoughDaredevilseason 3 is getting underway shortly, we’re almost certainly going to see new seasons ofJessica JonesandLuke Cagefirst. But still, knowing thatBorn Againis probably coming in some form or another is enough to make it well worth being patient.
