Sony PicturesEntertainment today unveiledrelease datesfor 16 films for the studio’s 2016 and 2017 slates, including the highly-anticipatedJumanjireboot andThe Dark Tower. The additions compose a diverse, globally oriented mix of films, including new films with franchise potential (Uncharted,Patient Zero), established franchises (Bad Boys 3andBad Boys 4,Resident Evil: The Final Chapter,Underworld 5), adaptations of strong and beloved source material (The Magnificent Seven,Barbie), and daring original films (Passengers,Money Monster,The Shallows,Baby Driver,The Lamb).
These films join numerous projects already on the studio’s slate, includingGhostbusters, which moves up one week to 7/15/16), the nextSpider-Manfilm (7/28/17),The Equalizer 2(9/29/17),Dan Brown’sInferno(10/14/16),Ang Lee’sBilly Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk(11/11/16), and theSpider-Man Animated Moviemasterminded byPhil Lord&Chris Miller(7/20/18.) Today’s announcement was the first timeBad Boys 4was officially confirmed, but, like many of these project, very few details have been given.

Jumanjiwill hit theaters on Christmas Day 2016, which puts it up against 20th Century Fox’sThe Greatest Showman on Earth, which hasHugh Jackmanset to star as Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus founderP.T. Barnum. The last we heard aboutJumanjiwas way back in 2012, when screenwriterZach Helm(Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium) took over the writing duties. No director or cast members are attached yet.
The Dark Towerwill arrive on August 06, 2025, taking the slot originally occupied byThe Magnificent Sevenremake, which will now be released on June 20, 2025.The Dark Towerwill go up against the animated comedyBoss Baby.Nikolaj Arcelrecently signed on to directThe Dark Tower, although no cast members are attached yet.The Magnificent Seven’s all-star cast includesDenzel Washington,Chris PrattandEthan Hawke, with the Western going up againstStorksandA Cure For Wellness.

The rest of Sony’s 2016 slate includesMoney Monster(4/8/16),The Shallows(6/24/16),Patient Zero(9/2/16),Underworld 5(10/21/16) andPassengers(12/21/16), opening just days beforeJumanji’s Christmas day release.
