Ryan Reynolds recently shocked theDeadpoolfandom by teasing that he might be working on a new movie featuring Wade Wilson. But, while the internet eagerly awaits Deadpool’s MCU return,Rob Liefeld, the creator of The Merc With a Mouth, has taken to social media to dispute the claim. Unfortunately, Ryan Reynolds' upcoming project, which many believe to be a Deadpool/MCU team-up movie couldn’t be further from the that.
Following Ryan Reynolds' recent tease, Rob Liefeld continued his ongoing beef with Marvel by taking to X (formerly Twitter) to disputethe idea of a fourth Deadpool filmbeing in the works. After Reynolds said “I’m writing a little something right now. It’s an assemble,” while discussingDeadpool & Wolverineand the character’s future, Liefeld revealed that the actor was talking about a completely unrelated project. Liefeld responded:

“Gentle reminder that he is writing a movie called ‘Boy Band’”
Deadpool Creator Refuses To Work With Marvel Again Over Claims of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Mistreatment
Rob Liefeld, the comic artist and creator behind Deadpool, claims that Kevin Feige doesn’t know how to treat comic book creators.
Rob Liefeld’s comment holds validity, as Ryan Reynolds is currently developing a new movie titledBoy Band. The “assemble” Reynolds teased referred to the film being directed byDeadpool & Wolverine’s Shawn Levy, and co-starring hiscounterpart from the previous film, Hugh Jackman.Boy Bandwas announced in December 2024. When the new movie was unveiled, Reynolds was again asked about Deadpool’s future, to which he said, “I have some pitches and ideas, but none of them center on Deadpool.” Whether the actor mislead fans, or is simply a marketing genius, we’ll leave up to you. But, as it stands, Deadpool’s future in the MCU remains as uncertain as ever.

What Has Ryan Reynolds Said About Deadpool’s MCU Future?
Deadpool & Wolverinewas, unsurprisingly, the blockbuster of the year in 2024. By bringing back Hugh Jackman for (potentially) the final time as Wolverine and including more cameos than Deadpool knows swear words, the film quickly became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all-time, surpassing Todd Phillips’Joker. As a result, all eyes within the Marvel fandom are onDeadpool’s next MCU appearance… if it will ever happen.
In Reynolds' last tease, he said that the future of Deadpool in the MCU is in the hands of Marvel Studios' president, Kevin Feige, and executive, Lou D’Esposito. “I trust Kevin and [Marvel exec] Lou D’Esposito with my life,” he said. “The character trait I love most about Deadpool is that he’s a fanboy. His enthusiasm and longing to be part of a team is really endearing to me. It’s his overarching wish-fulfillment story.” However, Deadpool does return in the future, Reynolds said that we shouldn’t expect to him to join one of Marvel’s many teams. “But I don’t think he should ever be an Avenger or an X-Man,” Reynolds continued. “If he becomes either, we’re at the end.”

Rumors have circulated online that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will return as Deadpool and Wolverine, respectively, in 2026’sAvengers: Doomsday. These rumors were further fueled by many of theoriginalX-Mencast returning as their fan-favorite charactersfor the film.
