Deadpool co-creatorRob Liefeldis going afterKevin Feigefollowing the disappointing box office drop ofCaptain America: Brave New Worldin its second weekend. DespiteCaptain America: Brave New Worldscoring Marvel Studios their 35th consecutive box office No.1 opening weekend, and the film holding the spot in its second weekend of release, it did suffer a disappointing 68.3% drop from last week. With the first ever B- CinemaScore ranking and a rotten 49% on Rotten Tomatoes, the buzz onCaptain America: Brave New Worldhas not been good.

Liefeld, the Marvel Comics artist best known for co-creating Deadpool, took to X/Twitter to call for Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to step down afterCaptain America: Brave New World’s second-weekend drop. Liefled’s post, which can be seen below, features the caption,“Get Feige off the mound. He’s spent.“The original post that Liefeld shared was from the Cosmic Marvel page that saidCaptain America: Brave New Worldhad an 82.4% drop from the film’s domestic opening day, comparing the two Friday grosses, which is very different from the overall opening weekend.

Marvel Confirms the Fate of ‘Moon Knight’ Season 2… And MCU Fans Are Going To Be Devastated

Even though Moon Knight might not get his own solo series, it appears the hero does have a future in the MCU.

Liefeld has always been one of the most outspoken and, at times, controversial comic book creators. His opinion on the MCU and Kevin Feige specifically might not be the most objective as he recently made headlinesannouncing he was retiring from Marvel entirely. Liefeld accused Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, of ignoring him at the premiere ofDeadpool & Wolverinein 2024. He also said he and his family were not invited toDeadpool & Wolverine’s afterparty. Liefeld took a dig at Feige, saying,"[Feige] does not treat comic book creators well. This is my personal experience.“Feige has not responded to Liefeld’s claim.

Does One Film Put Feige’s Track Record into Doubt?

While there might be some truth to Liefeld’s complaint that Marvel Studios might not do entirely right by its creators, he does have an ax to grind with Feige. He is taking the box office headlines surroundingCaptain America: Brave New Worldas a way to vent his frustration with the Marvel executive in a way that feels like a simple business decision. However, this does ignore the incredible box office track record that Kevin Feige has had with theMarvel Cinematic Universe being the highest-grossing franchise of all time.Captain America: Brave New Worldmight be disappointing, but it would be foolish to call it a flop. Liefeld didn’t criticize Feige whenDeadpool & Wolverinewas a box-office smash hit and probably had plenty of reason to give the perceived slight against him.

This “what have you done for me lately” mentality is similar to the hatredLucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedyhas gotten over the years. Despite being one of the most successful producers in film history, and four of her fiveStar Warsmovies making $1 billion worldwide, some fans still say she “killedStar Wars.” It doesn’t matter the level of box office and creative success Kevin Feige has had throughout his career, or thatDeadpool & Wolverinemade $1.3 billion worldwide. All that seems to matter is the most recent title; everything else be damned. There are obviously some fans who agree with Liefeld’s comments, which calls to mind what the Green Goblin said in Spider-Man: “In spite of everything you’ve done for them. Eventually, they will hate you.”
