Shortly after the release ofDeadpool & Wolverine, it was revealed that Disney CEO Bob Iger had asked Ryan Reynolds and co. to cut a line from the film that was deemed far too egregious. Mind you, this is the same movie where the Merc With a Mouth makes countless, grotesque jokes about his new Mickey Mouse overlord in hilarious fashion. The aforementioned line was so bad that even Reynolds agreed with its removal, but nowDeadpool & Wolverinefans can be the judge if the joke went too far.

Disney released the official script forDeadpool & Wolverine, presumably for the impending awards season (which can be readhere). As with most screenplays released this time of the year, it includes a few cut lines and scenes that didn’t make it into the final film. One of which takes place during the sequence that had Deadpool attempt to recruit Gambit, Blade, and Elektra as well as any other “X-Man” they can rally up. The running joke is that Disney still couldn’t shell out the cash to get the big guns from Marvel’s library. When Deadpool is told that Magneto won’t be coming to save them anytime soon, his original response included a quote referring to Mickey Mouse and himself having…Well, we can let you read it for yourself. Viewer discretion is advised, of course.

Although the line itself is quite funny and well within the realm of theDeadpoolfranchise, we can certainly see why Disney politely asked to remove it. Despite makingjokes about the company in similar fashion, one that egregious about the iconic Mickey Mouse probably would not have gone over too well with some audience members. Still, it is interesting to see how the original screenplay changed from script to screen, with select details still present in the final cut. It’s rare to get complete scripts for Marvel movies nowadays, so diehard fans should also take this opportunity to see what else is different from the theatrical release ofDeadpool & Wolverine.

Disney CEO Asked ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Crew to Remove the Joke (But Kept Another Insane One)

When Bob Igeroriginally asked the crew behindDeadpool & Wolverineto cut the Mickey Mouse joke, Ryan Reynolds was initially against removing anything from the film’s original vision. This is understandable, as they signed up for aDeadpoolmovie, which is far from the usual PG-13 MCU fanfare in both humor and tone. But even Reynolds eventually understood it was the best course of action, andthe joke he replaced it with was almost as deranged and hilarious.

“As soon as somebody says something, like, ‘Ryan, Bob Iger here. Would love it if you’d take that one line out. It’s really going to make our life hard over here.’ As soon as they say that, there’s just something in my brain that goes, ‘Must keep line! Precious!’ And then as soon as the fog of war lifts and you have a second thought, it’s like, ‘Of course I can take that out. Can I say something about Pinocchio instead? And the answer is yes!”
