Earlier today, Warner Bros. debuted thesecond trailerfor its highly-anticipated superhero adventureWonder Woman, which may or may not have dropped a huge bombshell, hiding in plain sight. While these details aren’t confirmed, it’s possible thatWonder Womanis following in the footsteps ofBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which used one of its trailers to confirm the presence of the oft-rumored Doomsday. There may be potential SPOILERS forWonder Womanbelow, so read on at your own risk.
This trailer gave us a new glimpse atDanny Huston’s mysterious character, who still has not been officially identified at this time. We can see in the footage that he is a World War I German military officer, who is also seen being flung byWonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth. Another shot in the trailer showed a deadly gas being developed that could even shatter the glass in traditional gas masks, which is followed by a shot ofDanny Huston’s character stating that “The world could be ours.” Several fans have speculated that these shots could be hinting thatDanny Huston’s character is none other than Ares from the DC Comics, but that hasn’t been confirmed byWarner Bros.

You may recall that, last September, rumors surfaced thatSean BeanandEva Greenwere being eyed to play the main villainsAres and Circe, respectively. NeitherSean BeanorEva Greenjoined the project, but there were several cast members such asDanny Hustonwhose characters still have yet to be confirmed. While it is never explicitly stated in the trailer thatDanny Huston’s character is Ares, the fact that his character remains unconfirmed continues to fuel this speculative fire.
There was an earlier rumor that claimedCircemanipulates the government into starting “World War 3, while Ares, the God of War, is said to be in possession of a mystical blade that he stole from the Amazons”. This blade would make him the most powerful God on Mount Olympus, but it’s locked, so he tries to start World War 3 to activate it. Ares draws his power from “malevolent psychic energy,” which would certainly be bountiful if World War 3 were to happen, which he intends to use to unlock the blade and take over Olympus.

In the comic books, Ares took many forms, but he was often portrayed as a demonic figure. Even ifDanny Huston’s character is in fact Ares, it isn’t known if we will get to see his true form whenWonder Womanhits theaters on July 15, 2025.
