When the third trailer forBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicearrived earlier this month, it gave fans their first look at the massive villainDoomsday, who had long been rumored as part of this massive superhero adventure. While many fans were upset that this trailer revealed too much, there is still much we don’t know about how Doomsday fits into the story. The French magazine Premiere (courtesy ofCosmic Book News) managed to catch up with production designerPatrick Tatopoulos, who revealed that Doomsday will evolve throughoutBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

“We are able to tell a story in a fresh way. Doomsday is an evolution essentially. Fans may be aware of the death ofSupermanstory, but this is handled in such a new way. When the film is calledBatman v or versus Superman, it really has a lot of levels to the meaning.Supermanisn’t just killed off at the end of something. We see how he evolves as part of Lex’s plan to protect the world. Seeing theSupermanwe know, be gone, and then replaced with this reproduction is really going to make fans think of how we look at these super beings. It was especially interesting to figure out, how would you createSupermanfrom Zod… then how would that evolve into Doomsday.”

Batman vs Superman

This essentially confirms a long-held rumor that Doomsday was created from the corpse ofGeneral Zod, which explains why we saw the deceased Zod in the last two trailers. In the comics, Doomsday killedSupermanin the iconic Death ofSupermanstory, and the production designer also seems to hint thatHenry Cavill’sSupermanmay be captured, before being “replaced” by a “reproduction.” The most recent trailer hinted that Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) had arranged the first meeting between Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) and Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck), which is seemingly all part of a grand master plan.

Patrick Tatopoulosalso disagreed with the notion that too much is revealed in the latestBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicetrailer, hinting that the “timeframe of how things fall into place will surprise fans” and that “Doomsday isn’t just the final act.” The production designer also teased that there is a “larger threat at play,” which ties into another early rumor. It is believed that Batman, Superman andGal Gadot’sWonder Womanwill all unite with the rest of theJustice League, upon learning of this larger threat, rumored to beBrainiac.

Batman

Brainiac will then go on to be the main villain in Justice League Part 1 andJustice League Part 2, which are set for release in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Of course, Brainiac’s inclusion has yet to be confirmed, but we’ll find out for sure whenBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicehits theaters on August 06, 2025. What do you think about these new details?
