Set in the same universe as Denis Villeneuve’s Oscar-winning movie franchise,Dune: Prophecyis a prequel series that aired on HBO and Max last year to generally positive reviews. The network moved quickly torenew the epic action seriesfor Season 2 before the finale, and it seems the big-budget production will begin rolling cameras sooner rather than later.Dune: Prophecy takes place 10,00 years before the events of the film series and follows the origins of the Bene Gesserit, a super-powered sociopolitical and religious entity with far-reaching influence across the galaxy.

During an interview with Collider,Dune: Prophecystar Josh Heuston, who portrays Constantine Corrino in the show, revealed that Season 2 will begin filming this August and continue until the end of the year. There is no release date yet, but fans can probably expect the show to return on HBO and Max sometime in 2026. For reference, the first season took a year to air on television after completing production at the end of 2023. In addition to the filming date, Heuston confirmed he would be reprising his role.

‘Dune’ Star Confirms Return in ‘Messiah’

‘Dune: Part Three’ is scheduled to begin filming this summer, wrapping up Denis Villeneuve’s epic trilogy.

Dune: Prophecymay not be as beloved as the film franchise, but it landed a positive 70% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Theclimactic final act of Season 1proved the show has enough material up its sleeve to sustain a multi-season narrative. Although it is a prequel set in the same cinematic universe, it is far enough removed from the timeline to be able to feel like its own standalone project. This means the twists and turns not only feel warranted, but occur without having to follow strict guidelines set by theDunefilms. That said,Prophecystill lives up to its name and broadens the vast mythology of the franchise, providing context for one of the most vital pieces of the puzzle in all ofDune.
