The popular anthology seriesFargowill lean more comedic in its upcoming fifth season. The FX series, created by Emmy Award winner Noah Howley, will begin production this fall. In anticipation of the upcoming season of the series, FX Chairman John Landgraf toldThe Hollywood Reporterwhat viewers can expect from the upcoming season.
“It’s particularly comedic this year,” he says. “It’s always a balance between how dramatic versus comedic it is, and this is the more comedic end of the spectrum. I really love it.”

Season five will take place in 2019, becoming the most contemporary of allFargoseasons. The series has jumped back and forth in time, with season four, which starred Chris Rock, taking place in 1950. The upcoming season revolves around a kidnapping, with the official logline asking: “When is a kidnapping, a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn’t yours?” Season five will starJuno Templeas a “housewife with a secret”, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Jason Leigh.Fargois based on the Coen Brothers film of the same name.

Fargo’s Cast and Crew
Since its first season,Fargohas been positively received by critics and audiences, with constant praise for its ensemble casts. Previous cast members have included Chris Rock, Kirsten Dunst, and Billy Bob Thornton.
The upcoming season has also been lined up with heavy hitters, as Temple, Hamm, and Leigh are all respected actors. Temple currently stars inTed LassoandThe Offer. For her work onTed Lasso, the actress earned Emmy Award nominations in 2021 and 2022. Temple’s film credits includeNotes on a Scandal, Atonement, The Dark Knight Rises,Maleficentand its sequel.
Hamm rose to stardom after playing Don Draper inMad Men. Hamm won two Golden Globes and a Primetime Emmy Award for his portrayal of the ad man in the period drama. Hamm most recently appeared inTop Gun: Maverick, and other notable film appearances includeThe Town,Bridesmaids,Friends with Kids, andBad Times at the El Royale.
Leigh recently starred on Netflix’sAtypicalfor four seasons. The actress, who began acting on television in the 1970s, appeared in the 1982 coming-of-age comedyFast Times at Ridgemont High. Leigh has received multiple award nominations for her work onMrs. Parker and the Vicious CircleandThe Hateful Eight. Leigh was also nominated for a Drama Desk award for an off-Broadway production ofAbigail’s Party.
Hawley has served as director, writer and executive producer for all seasons, and is also currently workin on anAlienprequel seriesfor FX. Season five executive producers will include The Littlefield Company’s Warren Littlefield, Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, Kim Todd, Vincent Landay and Toluca Pictures' Steve Stark.
FX picked up the anthology series for its fifth season back in February. Seasons one through four are currently streaming on Hulu.
