Even withArrowsoon coming to an end, its ever-growing Arrowverse continues to expand as The CW is moving forward with another spinoff of the series. ThisArrow Female Superhero Spin-Offwill star Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy, and Juliana Harkavy reprising theirArrowroles, following Mia Smoak and the Canaries Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake. Beth Schwartz, Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship, and Oscar Balderrama are writing. In development from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, the plan is for a backdoor pilot for the spinoff to air as an episode of the final season ofArrow.
The currently-untitled spinoff will give viewers the next generation of Team Arrow. Leading the pack isSmoak, the Green Arrow’s daughter, who made her debut into the series in season 7. For the upcoming final season ofArrow, McNamara has been promoted to series regular in the role. Meanwhile, Cassidy played the Black Canary Laurel Lance in the show’s first four seasons, also playing her doppelgänger in season 6. Cassidy also appears as Laurel in the spinoffThe Flash. Additionally, Harkavy played the Dinah Drake version of the Black Canary inArrow’s fifth season, and has since served as a series regular in the following seasons.
Arrowfirst began airing on The CW in 2012, presenting a new take on the DC Comics superhero Green Arrow.Stephen Amellhas starred on the series since the beginning as Oliver Queen, a billionaire playboy who secretly fights crime under a mask using a bow and arrow. The show proved to be a tremendous hit for the network, spawning the Arrowverse franchise with many spinoffs focusing on other DC-based characters in the shared universe. The other shows making up the Arrowverse areThe Flash,Supergirl, andLegends of Tomorrow, each of which have built their own followings. The upcoming spinoffBatwomanwill also be premiering in early October.
There’s no word yet as to whether Amell will make an appearance in the plannedArrowspinoff, but the actor can next be seen on Starz' upcoming TV seriesHeels. Amell will play a villainous character in an independent wrestling league, starring oppositeVikingsstar Alexander Ludwig as the company’s “good guy.” In the ring, the two are mortal enemies, but behind the curtain, they’re two brothers sharing the same dream of finding success in the big time. The role should come naturally for theArrowstar, as Amell has actually competed in the ring for WWE and Ring of Honor. After spending so many years as a superhero on The CW, it should be interesting seeing Amell as a dastardly wrestling villain.
The end is in sight for theArrowTV series, but it’s not quite over yet for Amell’s run asOliver Queen. The eighth and final season ofArrowwill begin airing on The CW starting on Jun 30, 2025, but the success of this spinoff along with the others could keep the universe alive for many years to come.
