In just eight short days, The CW’sThe Flashwill return with its midseason premiere on Tuesday, January 24 at 8 PM ET on The CW. Just a few weeks ago, The CW helped ring in the new year by issuingearly renewalsforThe Flash,Arrow,Legends of Tomorrow,Supergirland more, ensuring they’ll all back for the 2017 fall TV season. While we’ll still have to wait a bit to see what the back half ofThe FlashSeason 3 has in store for the fans, one of the show’s former stars revealed that he is actually coming back…From the dead!
While no details have been given about this surprising return,Rick Cosnett, who starred in the first season ofThe FlashasDetective Eddie Thawne, will return to the hit series at some point this year.Rick Cosnettwas a series regular on the first season ofThe Flash, but in the Season 1 finale, the Central City detective sacrificed himself to prevent his evil relative Eobard Thawne, a.k.a. Reverse Flash, from ever existing. The actor made the announcement on Twitter earlier today, although this isn’t the first time his character has come back.
InThe FlashSeason 2 episode “Flash Back,” which aired last March,Rick Cosnett’s Eddie Thawne returned again, when Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) traveled back in time to consult with Eobard Thawne. While he was there, Barry managed to coax Eddie Thawne into a recording a “goodbye” message to Iris West (Candice Patton), who was still mourning her late fiancee’s death. Given that this season has been dealing with theFlashpointstory from the comics, several events have been altered from the show’s timeline, which may in fact result in Eddie coming back from the grave, or his return could happen during another time travelling episode.
One of the biggest developments ofThe FlashSeason 3 is the growing romance betweenBarry Allenand Iris West, which could be quite complicated by the return of Eddie Thawne. It’s possible that Eddie’s appearance will be handled in a way that won’t interfere with Barry and Iris' romance. However, since Iris was engaged to Eddie at the time of his demise, and spent a great deal of the second season mourning his death, it could certainly be a big hindrance for their relationship as well
This news has yet to be confirmed by The CW or the show’s executive producers,Greg Berlanti,Andrew KreisbergandMarc Guggenheim. One development we do know is coming in the back half ofThe FlashSeason 3 is a musical crossover withSupergirl, but there hasn’t been an exact date for that crossover given quite yet. Before bothGrant GustinandMelissa Benoistlanded the roles of Barry Allen and Kara Zor-El, they showed off their singing talents on the hit Fox showGlee. While we wait for more on the musical crossover, take a look atRick Cosnett’s tweet below, revealing his return toThe Flash.
