Florence Pughis on a crusade to heal cinema through the MCU, and she’s doing so using jaw-dropping stunts. The latest promo forThunderbolts*sees Pugh’s character, Yelena Belova, jumping off the second-tallest skyscraper in the world. During a recent interview with Fandango, Florence Pugh and herThunderbolts*co-stars, includingDavid Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Sebastian Stan, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus,discussed the stunts in the upcoming MCU movie. When asked who had the toughest stunt in the film, everyone agreed that Pugh leaping off the second-tallest skyscraper in the world was the hardest. Florence Pugh then revealed that Kevin Feige was heavily against shooting the scene for real due to insurance concerns, but the actress fought hard to convince the Marvel boss. She said:

“So I got on all the emails. Because it was in the script, and slowly, as we got closer and closer to shooting, they were like, ‘Yeah, we don’t think it’s gonna happen. It’s just gonna be a crazy insurance ordeal.’ And I was like, ‘What the-! Of course we are. We have to do that.'”

‘Thunderbolts*’ Opens in Theaters on May 2

Marvel Studios have certainly made the most of themarketing from Florence Pugh’s stunt. In the build-up to the movie’s May 2 release date, Marvel first released a BTS clip of Pugh preparing for the stunt. Then, they released the full scene from the movie, showing off the phenomenal action scene.

To many, the stunt felt like a breath of fresh air in the MCU. For years, fans have complained about the overbearing CGI and visual effects in Marvel movies, with the franchise becoming the target of external criticism from other noted filmmakers like Martin Scorsese. The opening scene fromThunderbolts*doesn’t just look like a Marvel movie, it looks like a real film, with beautiful cinematography and color grading. Of course, we will have to wait until May 2 to see if the rest of the film holds up to its killer opening scene.
