Last month, the studio pushedRingsout of its August 10, 2025 release date into an unspecified 2016 slot, which has now been revealed as April Fools Day of next year.
Today’s news marks the third time Paramount has pushedFriday the 13th, which had been originally set for release on July 08, 2025, way back in 2013. Therebootwas later pushed to June 09, 2025, and then to July 05, 2025, before landing on its new January 13, 2017release date. Despite the mid-January release date, the project actually has quite a bit of competition, going up against Sony’sThe Dark Tower, Warner Bros.‘Geostorm, Lionsgate’sPower Rangersand 20th Century Fox’sHidden Figures.
David Bruckneris attached to direct Friday the 13th, withHannibalwriterNick Antoscasigning on to write the latest version of the script. There had been talk of Platinum Dunes putting afound footagespin on the franchise, but producerBradley Fullerrevealed earlier this year that plan was scrapped because they couldn’t figure out the story. No cast members are attached yet, and it isn’t known who will play Jason Voorhees yet.Derek Mearsplayed the maniacal killer in Platinum Dunes’ 2009 reboot, but it isn’t known if the producers will bring him back.
