FuriosadirectorGeorge Millercontinues to tease his plans for theMad Maxfranchise, revealing that his idea for a prequelfollowing Tom Hardy’s Max Rockatansky across The Wasteland and onto the Fury Road would certainly have “a lot of action in it.”While this is unlikely to come as much of a surprise to anyone who has seenMad Max: Fury Road, it’s exciting to hear thatMad Max: The Wastelandwould adhere to the same level of action that made the 2015 outing so captivating.
Continuing, Miller went on to reveal to theHappy Sad Confused podcastthatThe Wasteland, unlikeFury Road, would follow Max over a much longer period of time as it explores the year before he came face-to-face with Imperator Furiosa. Check out what he had to say below…

“I’d say it certainly has a lot of action in it, but it is also a saga. It’s a year-long story. Fury Road happened in three days and two nights, I don’t know how many hours that is, but you can almost say that the first act, some part of the second act, the third act mostly play in real time. It’s quite a different kettle of fish than, say, Furiosa. The Wasteland, I’m still figuring out what to do, but I’m simply waiting to see the reception of Furiosa and if it all lines up, we’ll go ahead with it.”
Mad Max: Fury Road
Currently,Mad Max: The Wastelandis in very early production, with Miller explaining thatthe story has been writtenas a novella.
“No, it’s still a novella and we’ve been working on the script for it. With these things, I really don’t like talking about them. I’ve been through so many movies that you wanna make … I’ve found that a lot, that it’s better not to talk about it.”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
A prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa is an action-adventure film that tells the origin story of the headstrong and fearless Furiosa. Set shortly after the beginning of the “end of the world,” Furiosa is kidnapped and brought before a powerful warlord, now forced to work for him. To find her way back home, Furiosa will adapt to the new harsh and arid world as she grows into the Furiosa she becomes known to be.
Like all sequels and prequels,Mad Max: The Wastelandmaking it to the big screen all depends on howFuriosa: A Mad Max Sagais received. And, while the prequel has been met with rave reviews from critics, the latest installment in the franchise has struggled at the box office, earning just $24 million in its opening weekend. Worldwide,Furiosahas grossed $65 million against a budget of $168 million, which is reportedly thelowest box office taking on Memorial Dayweekend since 1995. A disappointing result that has left many wondering about the state of cinema and movie theaters in the wake of the pandemic.
