This summer, Paramount and Hasbro put together a team of writers to come up with new ideas for theTransformersfranchise, which yielded at least three new movies that are in development.Deadlinereports that the studio is continuing thiswriters roomexperiment with two more franchises,G.I. Joeand the upcomingMicronauts.Akiva Goldsman, who supervised theTransformerswriters room, is now set to come up with ideas and oversee both of these new writers' rooms as well.
This new development means thatAkiva Goldsmanwon’t be available to writeTransformers 5, which he had originally planned to do. Now he will be supervising the writing process, with Paramount currently in negotiations withTransformerswriters room participantsKen Nolan(Black Hawk Down) and the writing team ofArt Marcum&Matt Holloway(Iron Man) to write the sequel. This change was approved by Paramount, Hasbro and producersMichael Bay,Steven SpielbergandLorenzo di Bonaventura.
No writers have been set for theG.I. JoeandMicronautsrooms as of yet. Participants in theTransformerswriters room also includedSteven S. DeKnight(Daredevil),Robert Kirkman(The Walking Dead),Zak Penn(Pacific Rim 2),Jeff Pinkner(The Amazing Spider-Man 2),Andrew BarrerandGabriel Ferrari(Ant-Man),Christina Hodson,Lindsey BeersandGeneva Robertson-Dorsett.Andrew BarrerandGabriel Ferrarihave been set to write theanimated movieentitled Transformers One, which revolves around these robots' home world ofCybertron.
It isn’t known how this new writers room will affectG.I. Joe 3, which doesn’t have a release date set at this time. Back in April, Paramount brought onAaron Bergto rewrite the script, which had previously been worked on byEvan Daugherty(Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Jonathan Lemkin (Shooter). We reported earlier this year thatD.J. Carusowas in talks to direct, but it isn’t known if he is still involved. We also reported last month that a possible crossover between Hasbro properties G.I. Joe 3,TransformersandJem and the Hologramsmay be possible, but nothing has been confirmed.
Micronautshas been in development for several years, withRhett ReeseandPaul Wernick(Deadpool) coming aboard to write the script back in 2011. We reported last month thatTom Wheelercame aboard to write the scripts for bothDora the ExplorerandMicronauts, so it’s possible that he will be involved in this writer’s room. What do you think about this new approach forG.I. JoeandMicronauts?
