Last year,Gary Oldmancame into conflict withHarry Potterfansafter declaring thathe considered his performance in the film saga to be mediocre. Now, the actor breaks silence on the elephant in the room and clarifies his own words, ensuring that he was not trying to offend anyone and, especially, not the fans.
Oldman is one of the many great actors who were part of the adaptation of the novels written by J. K. Rowling, joining notable namessuch as Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, among others. TheSlow Horsesstar played Sirius Black, godfather of Harry Potter himself, who appears for the first time in the third book and has a very important presence until the fifth one, where the character dies in one of the most tragic moments of the entire saga.

Harry Potter Star Daniel Radcliffe Addresses a Possible Cameo in the Max Reboot
Daniel Radcliffe addresses the idea of appearing in a cameo in Max’s new Harry Potter TV show.
Despite the love that has surrounded the character, considered by many to be one of the best in the entire franchise,Oldman was a little criticalabout the work he did in the films in a chat with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast last year:

“I think my work is mediocre. No, I do. Maybe if I had read the books like Alan [Rickman], if I had been ahead of the curve, if I had known what was coming, I honestly think I would have played it differently.”
Recently, the actor showed up at the Cannes Film Festival to promote his next film, Paolo Sorrentino’sParthenope, and at the press conference he referred to his words aboutHarry Potter(viaTHR):

“What I meant by the Harry Potter remark is that there was such secrecy that was shrouded around the novels, they were under lock and key… If I had read the five books and I had seen the arcs of the character, I may have approached it differently. I may have painted in a different colour. When I started Harry Potter, all I had was the book (The Prisoner of Azakban) and the representation of that man – one book in the library of Sirius Black. It’s not me looking at the movie and saying it’s a terrible film or I’m terrible, I just wish it had been under different circumstances. Not to be rude to any of the people out there who like that film.”
Gary Oldman Is Not the Only Harry Potter Actor Who Has Criticized the Franchise
Although Oldman’s statements generated quite a stir among fans, he was not the only star of the saga who had problems with the fandom for criticizing the Wizarding World in recent times. Earlier this year, Miriam Margolyes, who played Professor Pomona Sprout, started a war with the fansafter saying thatHarry Potteris “for children” and that fans “should be over that by now.”
Beyond her statements and that, originally, the saga was aimed at a young audience, it is true that the story created by Rowling grew alongside an entire generation and continues to fascinate readers of all ages around the world. The films were an huge success for Warner Bros., and the studio isalready working on a rebootin series form, with a new cast and a more faithful adaptation of the seven main books.
