Last week during Comic-Con, showrunnerBryan Fullerrevealed that his newStar TrekTV series would be entitledStar Trek Discovery, while also debuting thefirst trailer. The series will debut on CBS in early 2017 with a special preview, before the show transitions to its new home at CBS All Access, the network’s new streaming service. While we still have a few months before the show debuts,Rod Roddenberry, the son ofStar TrekcreatorGene Roddenberry, had some great things to say about this show.
Druing Comi-Con, we go our first look at the brand new ship featured in thisTV series, which, like the show itself, is also dubbed Discovery. There still isn’t much we know about the plot quite yet, butBryan Fullerrecently shot down reports that this will be an anthology series.Screen Rantcaught up withRod Roddenberryat Comic-Con, who wouldn’t say much about the plot, but had nothing but praise forBryan FullerandAlex Kurtzman.
“What I can say is that the gentlemen in charge,Alex KurtzmanandBryan Fuller, are the creators of the show, and I’m there to participate in any way that I can and ensure whatever they’re willing to have me there for. I’ve had some great conversations with them. Too many times I’ve had conversations with them and I feel like, well they’ve got it. They’re doing a great job, so I don’t think people will be disappointed.”
The show’s title was announced during the50th Anniversarypanel at Comic-Con, which was moderated byBryan Fuller. The panel honored the golden anniversary and the indelible mark the iconic franchise has left on fans around the world, and featured stars from previous iterations of the beloved series, includingWilliam Shatner,Brett Spiner,Michael Dorn,Jeri RyanandScott Bakula. When asked about this incredible milestone,Rod Roddenberryhad this to say.
“The fact that it’s gone on for half a century is mind-numbingly cool. And that’s an understatement. For me it’s always been more about the message and the philosophy ofStar Trekthan the sci-fi and the action. I haven’t actually seen this movie yet, but I have some close friends who have, and they say that it does an incredible job of representingStar Trek.”
