Despite recentlows with projects likeMs. Marvel,She-Hulk, andThe Eternals, Marvel has had an unforgettable journey thus far. Even the recentAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniawasn’t what fans expected from the MCU. It seemed soulless with the underwhelming introductions of two of Marvel’s most iconic villains: Kang the Conqueror and MODOK. With a string of failures, it looks like Marvel is focusing on quantity over quality, but that could change with the release ofGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Regrettably, the path to the third installment of Marvel’sGuardians of the Galaxyhas been difficult and drawn out. The initial plan was to releaseGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3soon afterAvengers: Endgame, but that did not work out.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

While everyone was excited about the film after the release of the official trailer, many were saddened by the fact that the sub-franchise would be ending soon, and we might not be able to see the team together again. However,Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3appears to be distinct from the current MCU projects, and it can potentially restore the franchise’s lost glory.

James Gunn’s Final Marvel Project

Although James Gunn wasn’t specific about it, it is clear thatGuardians of the Galaxymay be his final MCU project for a while. It is apparent that James Gunn is the heart of theGuardians of the Galaxytrilogy, not only because he handles the projects flawlessly but also because he brings something out of the ordinary every time he steps behind the lens.

As previously stated, the upcoming film was meant to release soon afterEndgame, but due to offensive tweets Gunn posted, he received a dismissal from Marvel, causingVol. 3to be delayed. DC quickly grabbed the skilled filmmaker, and the resultingSuicide Squadmovie was a smashing success for the studio.Stars like Dave Bautista, Chris Pratt, and others reportedly stated that they would bail on the production ofGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3if Gunn wasn’t retained, and the studio ultimately decided to bring him back.

Given that the strength of this sub-franchise has always been its perfect cast and James Gunn’s vision, who never shies away from penning something outlandish, he will undoubtedly give his all for his final Marvel project, so fans can rest assured that it will be full of heart, humor, and action. Since his current position as co-CEO of DC Studios makes it unlikely that he will ever return to Marvel, we should all prepare for the worst. In the meantime, though, Marvel fans can take comfort in the fact that he is wrapping up theGuardians of the Galaxyfilms.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Although it appears to be a typical adventure for these saviors, there’s a sense that the end of the sub-franchise is imminent, what with the crew running acrossthe High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), who is obsessed with creating a perfect world by means of experiments on living creatures, and Rocket experiencing his worst nightmare.

We’ll also see Star Lord’s one-sided love story, as well as amusing combinations of Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), and Nebula (Karen Gillan).
