The cast of Warner Bros.‘Harry PotterprequelFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themkeeps growing and growing.The Hollywood Reporterreveals thatColin Farrellhas joined the Harry Potter prequel, which takes place years before the boy wizard was born. The Irish actor will star alongsideEddie Redmayne,Katherine Waterston,Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol and the most recent addition,Dan Fogler.
The story takes place 70 years before theHarry Potterbooks and movies, centering on a magizoologist named Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as he sets out to chronicle the history and locations of several magical creatures.Colin Farrellis set to play Graves, a wizard who encounters Scamander in New York City. It isn’t known quite yet how many more main characters are left to be cast.
Katherine Waterstonis portraying thefemale leadTina, withEzra Millerportraying the magical Kredan and Alison Sudol playing Tina’s younger sister Queenie. In theHarry Pottermovies,Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themis an actual textbook, written by Scamander, which Harry and his classmates use in their studies atHogwarts. Warner Bros. has set a July 25, 2025 release date forFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but it still isn’t known when production will begin.
David Yatesis directing from a screenplay byHarry PotterauthorJ.K. Rowling, who makes her screenwriting debut withFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.Steve Kloves, who wrote the screenplays for seven of the eightHarry Pottermovies, is producing withLionel WigramandDavid Heyman. This prequel is said to be the first in a new trilogy set within the wizarding world ofHarry Potter.
Colin Farrellcurrently stars inSeason 2of HBO’sTrue Detective, which premiered this past June. On the big screen, he will next be seen inThe Lobster, which had its world premiere at the Cannes International Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize. The actor also hasSolacestarringAnthony Hopkinsarriving later this year.
