House of the Dragon, based on George R. R. Martin’s bookFire & Blood, serves as a prequel toGame of Thrones. House of the Dragon
Taking place about 172 years before the events ofGame of Thrones,House of the Dragontells the tale of the rise of the Targaryens, the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria. Also starring in the series is Matt Smith (Prince Daemon Targaryen) and Paddy Considine as Rhaenyra’s father, King Viserys Targaryen.
Different houses and powerful families appear throughoutHouse of the Dragon. They each have their own heraldry, mottos, and history. Naturally, members of these lines round out the cast.

FittingHouse of the Dragon’s nature as a prequel series, many of these families have already been introduced to viewers throughGame of Thrones, leaving audiences to watch and see if the apple really falls far from the tree. Some of these families have lost their status by the time ofGame of Thrones, but it can still be worth a watch to see what once was.
