The Batman Part IIis one of Warner Bros. and DC Studios' most anticipated movies, alongside the upcomingSupermanreboot, and the film’s constant delays are causing all sorts of speculation online. One of the big questions looming over the sequel’s head, especially afterJames Gunnand Peter Safran took over DC Studios, is whether Robert Pattinson’s Batman will ever join the main DCU timeline with David Corenswet’s Superman. It’s something that a large portion of the fan base has been dreaming of since the takeover, and James Gunn has given the most definitive answer yet… kind of.
James Gunn recently sat down with Rolling Stone to discuss the upcoming release ofSuperman(July 11), which marks the official start of the DCU on the big screen. During the conversation, Gunn addressed the long-rumored potential of Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne from Matt Reeves’The Batmanjoining the DCU. Supes makes up one-third of DC’s Trinity, alongside Wonder Woman, who was recently confirmed to be getting a standalone project in the new DCU, and Batman. The Dark Knight is getting a standalonemovie in the DCU, titledThe Brave and the Bold, but no actor has been cast yet. This has led some to believe that Pattinson will jump timelines fromThe Batmanto the DCU.

‘The Batman 2’ Star Wants to Make a Big Change in the Sequel
Andy Serkis is hoping Matt Reeves makes a big change in ‘The Batman Part II’s script.
“I really should clear this up,” James Gunn said before kind of clearing it up, but still leaving things ambiguous enough for the internet rumor mill to remain spinning. “I would never say zero, because you just never know. But it’s not likely. It’s not likely at all.” Judging from his response, there are currently no plans for Robert Pattinson to join the DCU, or for Reeves’ separateThe Batmanuniverse to join the fold of the DCU. But, anything is possible in superhero comic books, and Gunn believes the same is true for superhero movies.

James Gunn Puts ‘The Batman Part II’ Cancelation Rumors to Bed
The finished script forThe Batman Part IIwas originally supposed to be turned in this January. However, the writing process has undergone several delays, and Reeves and his co-writer, Mattson Tomnlin, have yet to turn in a finished script. As a result,The Batman Part II’s release has been delayed to June 26, 2025.
The delays have caused several fans to assume thatThe Batman Part IIhas secretly been canceled. This rumor has spread like wildfire online and across social media. But, James Gunn says there is zero truth to it, and that he is accepting of the delays as it gives Reeves and Tomlin time to make the film even better.

“I’ll also sayBatman Part IIis not canceled,” Gunn addressed. “That’s the other thing I hear all the time — thatBatman Part IIis canceled. It’s not canceled. We don’t have a script. Matt’s slow. Let him take his time. Let him do what he’s doing. God, people are mean. Let him do his thing, man.”
