Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinyopens in cinemas at the end of the month, and the first box office projections are in. Despite being hyped as thefinal outing of the iconic character for Harrison Ford, the opening weekend for Indy’s fifth adventure is not exactly stacking up to be the franchise’s Holy Grail, but is simply…OK.

The projections for Indy’s June 30 opening have placed the movie firmly in the $60-70 million domestic gross. This is certainly a long way short of some of the year’s biggest movies, but also fairly in line with other action movies such as theMission: Impossiblemovies and Daniel Craig’s final James Bond outingNo Time To Die. This means thatDial of Destinycould very well end up hitting somewhere around $700 million when all is said and done and find itself comfortably taking a place in the top ten movies of 2023.

Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in The Dial of Destiny

The biggest concern forIndy 5is that the film could well have a decent run at the box office, but has a hefty $300 million budget to recoup and that doesn’t take into account the huge marketing push that will be coming soon to promote the film enoughto compete with other big movieslikeTransformers: Rise of the BeastsandThe Flash, which release over the next two weekends. With other movies likeMission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Onealso heading into cinemas soon, Old Man Jones could be in for one of the roughest rides of his very hectic life.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Has Been Getting Mixed Critic Reviews.

Although the initial reaction toIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destinyfrom itsCannes Film Festival premierewas pretty positive, just a few days later critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes didn’t quite match up with the first wave of praise. This has left the movie with a “rotten” 51% score from its first 47 reviews, a score that even the often deridedIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skullmanaged to beat.

The biggest challenge of Indy’s career is going to come once audiences get the chance to see the film for themselves. Whether they will be able to suspend their disbelief one more time – and reportedly really leave their grounded thoughts at the door for the final reel – and go along with the ride is going to be what really makes or breaksDial of Destiny’s ability to earn a solid final box office and see Indiana Jones off in style.

For those who have to yet make their mind up about whetherDial of Destinyis for them, there will be a ramping up of promotion coming in the next few weeks that will bring a final trailer, numerous TV spots and a wider range of critic reviews for fans to pick through before the movie hits theaters worldwide on June 30.
