The numbers could rise in the coming weeks, and as usual, Disney is conservatively tracking the epic movie in the $175 million to $200 million mark. The studio famously did the same thing withBlack Panther, which blew away all of the early tracking predictions and practically doubled what Disney initially forecasted. Infinity Waris the ten-year culmination of everything that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been working towards and has become one of the most anticipated movies of all time in the process.Black Pantheropened with $202 million, which put it right behind the MCU’s biggest opening, which is still the firstAvengersfilm at $207 million. IfInfinity Warcomes close to the same tracking patterns as Ryan Coogler’sBlack Panther, it will decimate the previous MCU record and end up with a new set of competitors in the top 5 highest domestic openings of all time.
Next on the list isJurassic World, which opened at a little over $208 million, placing it in the number 3 position for highest domestic opening of all time. Again, ifInfinity Warfollows recent trends, it should have no problem taking out the dinosaur movie. It gets a bit trickier when you get into the next bracket for the number 1 and 2 positions. Number 2 isThe Last Jediat $220 million and thenThe Force Awakensat number 1, with $247 million.
The marketing behindInfinity Warhas been excellentleading up to the release of the movie. Disney has been taking the same approach that they use for marketingStar Warsmovies by not showing much footage and revealing next to nothing about the storyline. Actually,Infinity Warmay have taken the secrecy to a whole new level. The world premiere for the movie will be held on April 23rd, which is only 3 days before the Thursday night previews. The social media embargo lifts at 10:30 PM Pacific time on the 23rd as well and the review embargo is lifted the next morning.
