Black Panthermade its debut in theaters this weekend, dominating the competition and has already gone on to have the 2nd highest Thursday preview premiere in Marvel Cinematic Universe history. The rave reviews keep pouring in and the movie continues to break box office records, including the highest grossing debut in February, stompingDeadpool’s previous record. Now thatBlack Pantherhas been out for a few days, fans have had time to think and reflect about what they saw on the big screen and many believe that a character from the movie will show up inCaptain Marvel. There are SPOILERS forBlack Pantherahead, so read at your own risk.
Halfway throughBlack Panther, Martin Freeman’sEverett Rosscharacter is badly injured in an attack, which ends up with Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa taking him to Wakanda where they have the technology to save his life. T’Challa’s sisterShurifixes Ross up, but he’s confused as to where he is when he wakes up in Wakanda. In his confusion, Ross asks Shuri if she knows who he is, leaving her to read off details of his biography. The key point is that she mentions he’s an former Air Force pilot.
The pilot backstory checks out since Everett Ross is seen remotely piloting a Wakandan ship in the third act of the movie. However, there’s also a chance that a younger version of Ross could end up inCaptain Marvel, which takes place in the early 1990s. Brie Larson’sCarol Danverscharacter starts off in the Air Force before coming Captain Marvel and the time period fits in perfectly with Everett Ross being in the Air Force at the same time.
The plot ofCaptain Marvelis securely under wraps at the moment, but we have already seen Brie Larson in herAir Forcegear as well as in her green, pre-Captain Marvel costume. It would make sense to see Everett Ross show up with Carol Danvers in the Air Force, but it isn’t clear how Marvel would set it up at this time. It could be just a cameo, or he could end up as a significant part of her experience in the military. We’ll just have to wait until the movie comes out, but it seems likely.
In the meantime,Black Pantheris tearing up the box office whileCaptain Marvelis in production with a release date of March 6th, 2019. In addition to Brie Larson, the movie will also star Samuel L. Jackson as a young Nick Fury, before his need of the eye patch as well as Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, and DeWanda Wise. There’s still a lot that isn’t clear aboutCaptain Marvel, especially casting, since there have not been very many updates. Martin Everett’s name could pop up on the casting in the near future.
