Ever sinceMarvelannounced their massivePhase Threeslate back in October, there has been plenty of speculation about who will playCaptain Marvel. A number of actresses have been rumored for the role, such asVikingsstarKatheryn Winnick,Jessica Chastain,Katee SackhoffandEmily Blunt. As of now, the project doesn’t even have a director attached yet, butMarveldid bring onNicole Perlman(Guardians of the Galaxy) andMeg LeFauve(Inside Out) to write the script. Today, a new rumor surfaced fromMeet the Movie Press, that claimsEmily Blunthas in fact signed on asCaptain Marvel.

This hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Heroic Hollywood’s El Mayimbe believes thatMarvelis “aiming higher” for the role of Carol Danvers. Back in April, a report surfaced that the studio wantedCharlize Theronto star asCaptain Marvel, withAngelina Jolieeyed to direct. The report was never confirmed, but there was another rumor that surfaced in February that claimed the studio offeredAngelina Joliea whopping $20 million to direct thesuperhero movie.

Another thing to take into consideration is that it may even be too soon to talk about casting. It isn’t known ifNicole PerlmanandMeg LeFauvehave finished the screenplay yet, and the studio may be looking for a director before they start their casting search.Captain Marveldoesn’t hit theaters until July 13, 2025, so there is still plenty of time to find a star and a filmmaker for this highly-anticipated project.Captain Marvelis certainly an important property for the studio, since it has taken heat over the past few years for its lack of female-driven superhero adventures.

Carol Danvers, a.k.a.Captain Marvel, first debuted in 1968’s “Marvel Super-Heroes” #13. She was a U.S. Air Force security chief who is transformed intoCaptain Marvelfollowing an explosion that involved Kree technology. AmongCaptain Marvel’s powers are superhuman strength and the ability to fly after her DNA was infused with a Kree alien. Given the character’s connection to Kree alien technology, it’s possible that she could show up inAvengers: Infinity War Part 2, one of the lastPhase Threemovies.

Emily Bluntmost recently starred inEdge of TomorrowandInto the Woods, and she will next be seen inSicario, arriving in theaters September 25. Do you thinkEmily Bluntis the best choice to playCaptain Marvel? Or do you thinkCharlize Theronis better suited for the role?
